FULL TITLE: Girls as young as TEN are being given the contraceptive implant - sparking fears it puts them at risk of 'horrendous abuse'
Girls as young as 10 have been given the contraceptive implant, potentially exposing them to horrendous abuse.
The primary school age children are among thousands of minors given the slow-release contraceptive device since 2010 despite being far under the age of consent.
The implants, which have never been tested on under-18s, were given to at least three 10-year-olds in the last five years, according to figures obtained by MailOnline.
East Lancashire NHS Trust, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Alder Hey Childrens Hospital, in Liverpool, each gave the implant to a 10-year-old during the last five years.
Meanwhile South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, based in Torbay, gave the contraceptive device to a 10 or 11-year-old, but would not specify which.
During the last five years, at least 53 12-year-olds were given the implant, as well as a minimum of 281 13-year-olds.
More than 3,000 14-year-olds and at least 6,300 girls aged 15 were also given the device, which releases the hormone progesterone to prevent pregnancy, inserted under the skin in their arms.
A total of 61 NHS Trusts across England admitted they had fitted the implants in minors after a series of Freedom of Information Act requests by MailOnline.
The numbers are likely to be even higher, as dozens of Trusts did not or were unable to provide full figures.

So moose limbs can make use of them.
I’ll buy that answer.
Gotta love that National Health Service .... always thinking outside the box of ethics and morals.
Survey Says: Mooselim Pedophila!
If I had a daughter I was worried wasn't listening to me and was “at risk” or making a life altering bad choice... I think I might consider an implant vs relying on some child to be responsible enough to take a pill every day who cant even remember to brush their teeth every day.
And yes, unfortunately there are 10 year olds out there messing around and some of them get pregnant.
While I can't say their (UK) entire society gives tacit approval to pedophiles, they have a rather long and sordid history of merely loosely covering it up,or ignoring it, instead of dealing with it.
Not that large sectors of our society (USA) don't try hard to emulate them.
All Doctors and clinics are supposed to report to LEAs any STDs or pregnancies of all children under the age of legal consent.
Want to guess how many don't?
Children who are sexually active need mental help not contraceptives just like children who smoke drugs should not be given those harmful drugs.
Children who are sexually active are or were molested.
I don't know why you troll here, but it's getting old.
By definition, at least formally. However, in practice, the "consenting adult" standard treats anyone who has reached puberty as an "adult," at least some of the time.
If you mean pedophiles are actively enabled by scofflaws, like Planned Parenthood, you would be correct.
If you mean pedophiles are enabled by schools, churches and other entities who just don't want to enforce laws against predatory child molesters, you would also be correct.
The longer a female takes hormonal BC, the riskier it is healthwise.
In April I had a DVT (blood clot) in my leg. I don’t know HOW many times I was asked by doctors and nurses while evaluating risk factors, “Do you take hormonal birth control?”
Yes, I mean those things, among others.
Don’t you think that this type of birth control is pretty harsh for such a young and still developing child? Ten... as young as TEN years old.
Child abuse.
What is this doing to these young girls’ bodies.
Does anyone care?
Where are their parents?
If you have a 10 year old child who is having sex you are not parenting that child. You are not protecting that child. You effectively do not care about the child at all or what happens to her.
The child is not expected to be responsible ... the parent is.
Interesting...the article doesn’t mention (now-former) Governor Perry? Odd.
In at least a few cases it would be for medical reasons, abnormal periods or some such. Don’t know how common that is.
It is pure child abuse
