I was fortunate to learn my chops on a a system 55 (studio), and to own a mini-Moog (home/gigs) back in the day. Tempermental as all heck. The Moogs, too.
Mr G has had both a Moog and a Mellotron at one time or another in studios he worked at. He has wondered what ever happened to them.
As a side note, we had a friend who saw a woman getting into a parked car with a tag that said Minimoog. He backed up and asked her if she had one. She said she WAS one.... Moog’s daughter.
If they bring back the Clavinet, I can die.
IIRC, this was one of the major sections of the equipment. The synth prof (clad in purple striped pants and a pistachio shirt, room decorated with a Hellraiser bust and disembodied arm offering an ice cream cone) was delighted to show off his precious machines in detail, a little unsure of how to address his odd audience (me + Mom) but eager to try. What a thrill it was, and thank _you_ for bringing that memory back.
I cannot conceive of how I managed to live this long without realizing this list existed -- I must be on it. There simply is no alternative. Thank you SO much in advance. :)

Done :)
That's still the case! Do you know they have recently remodeled considerably, refurbished, the place looks like a million bucks but it is still very much The Rongo. I've been there a couple of times since the upgrade; the food is very good (dinner menu is still small, but excellent), the stage has been redone, bar is still the huge tree slab but the decor is classier. It's really quite striking.
He's still there.

“Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and Rick Wright”
Saw all of them back in the day. Very, very cool.
It wasn’t a Mellotron. It’s outward appearance was that of a baby grand piano but it had electronic innards and used 3 1/2 inch floppy disks to load program voices. It was a gorgeous instrument that played well and sounded great but I don’t think that Dr. Moog cared for it. Somewhere I have a picture of he and I at the keyboard.
I dunno - hard to play “Superstition” on a harpsichord.
But I’m sure someone has.
You win.

On Rush’s “Clockwork Angels” album from a few years ago they use the Moog Tauras pedals still, and I think it is that album where Alex uses a Theremin on one of the songs.
I've told this before, I'll tell it again. In '71 or '72 maybe, I got recruited to drive a friend and some of his pals to the Spectrum in Philly in my Pinto for an Emerson Lake and Palmer concert . We got there and they went their way. I watched the concert and it seemed so-so to me, then it quit and everybody was milling around and I was looking for my charges but didn't see them. I wandered up to the upper deck and went behind a backdrop above the stage and fell asleep in a stadium seat. After some time, I was awakened by a loud noise, "ooooh -EEEEEE -oooooh" etc. I stood up and walked to the edge of the backdrop, and I was looking straight down on Keith Emerson, wrestling with his keyboard. I stayed there for some time, and I was never approached by anybody - can you imagine? The opening act had been YES.
As to refrigerators, my recollection is of a more modest dimension. I suppose it could have been bulky by later standards. I did say "wrestling".
