The point of the movie was that they weren’t, really. They had kind hearts and a marketable skill (fashion design). They’d just be evaluating themselves by high-school standards, which are stupid.

And they were ten years younger than Melody.

Huh. I finished the movie with kind of a bad taste in my mouth. Perhaps I misunderstood it. To me, it seemed just mean and ugly.

I might have quit watching it too soon.

I only watched it because I was a fan of Lisa Kudrow. She doesn't do "ditzy" very well, in my view. Phoebe/Ursula was perfect for her.
