But Academy members seem to be paying attention to the criticism that Eastwood and star/producer Bradley Cooper shouldnt be celebrating a man who wrote that killing hundreds of Iraqis was fun.
He seems like he may be a sociopath, one Academy member told TheWrap, adding he had not yet seen the film but had read the article, which is being passed around.
Neither distributor Warner Bros. nor the filmmakers have responded to TheWraps request for comment, though the studio said they intended to make someone available.
A piece in The Guardian by author Lindy West was an early critic of Kyle: The real American Sniper was a hate-filled killer. Why are simplistic patriots treating him as a hero? he wrote.

He killed for the same reason Chris Kyle did..to protect his fellow troopers from the enemy.
Wow, a great patriotic movie about a sniper who probably saved hundreds of American lives and here we have the media and liberal folks doing their thing...geez.
Seems that the populace has much more respect for this movie than those that review it but that seems to be the case most of the time... Bless these idiots!
I hope that this movie become the all-time money winner!
So it is not just me?
The sane people ignored hyperemotional dimbulbs ... that's how. If we're to survive, we must do the same.
I recall one story he told in his book.
Kyle was on his crib-on-its-side hide and spotted two targets with AK’s and RPG on their backs riding a scooter.
He got both with one .300 Winchester magnum slug and pointed out that he had saved the American taxpayers the cost of a cartridge.
Yes, he was a killer, and one of the very best—one of the rough men, downrange, who stand ready day or night to do violence and allow Hollywood s***s to sleep late safely in their beds.
“Who is Lindy West and why should I care what it thinks about a great American like Chris Kyle?”
Ugh... Just did an image search for that name.... Beware
Agree.
Well, America loves it. I haven’t seen movie sellouts for years in my area. This show appeals to the demographics of 17-99+ years of age.
Before I read this article I was planning to wait for it to come out on Netflix. Now I'm breaking my long-standing habit and going to a theater to watch it. And taking my wife. And urging some friends of ours to join the outing. Try to boost ticket sales by six, just because of me, one person, reading how much these liberal scum are squirming at the thought of muzzies getting shot.
We saw “Sniper” this afternoon, and it was very affecting. Excellent filmmaking, great acting, and Clint has evolved into a really awesome director. I was especially impressed with his subtle characterization of the enemy sniper who becomes Kyle’s particular foe. And anyone who could actually *see* this movie and not understand and appreciate our guys’ collective courage is just dumb as a box of rocks (which, okay, describes most libs!).
*like*
Yup. Time's a-wasting.
Not only is he beating Oprah’s movie but his Empty Chair speech has to be rattling around in their heads over and over.
We were allies of Stalin, so the Communists in the press supported us.
If we had hanged these commie scum the first time around in the 60’s, we wouldn’t have to listen to this sh— a second time.
Go see it! I cried. I laughed. I was angry. A great movie about real life!! Thank you to ALL our protectors.
