A senior Cabinet minister in Ireland says hes gay, becoming the first openly homosexual government figure in the history of the traditionally conservative Catholic country.
Sundays announcement on state radio by Health Minister Leo Varadkar received widespread praise for its straightforward honesty. Analysts said his decision was likely to be viewed with hindsight as a landmark of social change in a country that, until 1993, outlawed homosexual acts.
Varadkar said he decided to declare his sexuality in advance of government moves this year to advance gay rights. These include plans to legalize gay marriage, permit homosexual men to donate blood, and create greater parenthood rights for gays in surrogate-pregnancy cases. He said Mays constitutional referendum on gay marriage, in particular, got him thinking about going public.

When you’re “gay” it’s obligatory that you announce it to the world.

Ah sure and begorrah he’s gonna marry himself a leprechaun and live at the end of the rainbow ploughing the pot of fudge......................er, gold.
What a disgusting puke

I would say that Islam is underreported there, and there are a lot of crypto-Muslims; building that big mosque in Clongriffin in the north Dublin suburbs indicates a stronger presence than official figures acknowledge.
I’m waiting for someone they are Vulcans...but if a space alien landed at the white house or congress... they would say there’s no intelligent life...
Leo Varadkar? Are his people the Tipperary Varadkars or the Donegal Varadkars?
Great! Now Liam Neeson can get himself an Irish boyfriend.
