I know I will get smeared by this, but I watched this "film" and I just don't get it. It wasn't
that good. It was a decent film, sure, but to the acclaim it is getting I just don't get.
I am sorry for the guys loss, truly. This film just doesn't convey "greatness" however.
Dawning fireproof suit now.....

It was okay - but not great I didn’t think. Just got back a few hours ago. Packed house.
I think it was probably a real good portrayal of soldiers, war, and family - and the struggle of going back and forth between the two. Not a typical war-hero made for the movies story (like Lone Survivor), but a story that needs to be told.

Okay... Donning. or Dawning, perhaps. You won’t get heat on this, regardless of your NCO spelling/usage problems. Just sayin’

That’s OK, even Casablanca had its critics.

I won't flame you for your opinion regarding the quality of this movie. That's a matter of individual taste. I think what we're witnessing here is more of a cultural phenomenon with the impact this film is having on it's audience. "Selma" can't give away tickets, but it appears that every showing of "American Sniper" has sold out. I went to see it last night, and I experienced the same thing as everyone else on this thread. A packed house which was dead silent when the movie ended. What Eastwood has done with this story is tap into a quiet American culture that is sick to death of being "entertained" by films that preach to us about how awful we are. Instead, he's told a story about Americans for Americans. Regardless of what film the Academy decides is the best picture of the year, millions of Americans have made their own decision, and we don't give a crap what the Hollywood culture thinks.
