Common sense legislation which, of course, will be challenged by the usual, hyphenated whining groups.

It’s raciss! No one should have to know anything about the government or current politics and issues to be able to vote!

As long as “Civics” includes at least a cursory acquaintance with the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

Common Sense. ?
Not if you listen to the professionals in the education industry. According to the “news” reports last night, they were already giving too many tests. According to them these tests take up time that could be better spent teaching.

Well, that is what the Professional said.

There used to be a course of civics taught in ALL high schools, including one for the senior year, called “Social Problems”, in which the fundamentals of the Constitution, and state and local government were covered, including the right to vote, and various means by which citizens could participate in the government actions at all levels.

Of course, back during the Depression, this was pretty much of an indoctrination into the nuances of the New Deal. After the war, however, the emphasis was changed to reflect more of the Eisenhower era, before the course material was eliminated almost completely during the “student revolts” of the 1970’s.

It should be accompanied by a requirement for all history and social studies teachers to pass the same exam prior to being allowed to continue to teach.

Oh yeah....the left is here howling at the moon. It includes study of the constitution, which is anathema to the left.

Why only 60% to pass?

What score is required for Naturalized Citizens?

Can we make this a requirement for Voting?

If not, make it a requirement for Teachers, Professors, News reporters, Commentators, Judges and all elected officials.

(before I get too far along on this rant, I’d better see if I can find the test and pass it myself!)

Anyone have a link?

Requirement for a completed course in basic economics (Capitalist, thank you) ought to follow. The Left opened the door for national standards with Common Core. Not sure I would advocate using it, but it’s tempting.

I took civics class in junior high in the 60’s. Guess they don’t have this anymore.

The reason for this is to fight Ethnic Studies mandated by a federal judge who is trying to “desegregate” Arizona schools.

The Ethnic Studies courses are filled with Mexican hatred of Anglos and how Arizoan was stolen from its rightful owners...Mexico.

The courses were stopped by an Arizona law last year but the Tucson Unified School District is defying the law and planning to teach it.

So this is a bow shot against the Mexican irredentism being pushed in the schools by TUSD Superintendent H.T. Sanchez.

As for desegregation, legal segregation ended 60 years ago. Why the school districts in Tucson are still under court order no one knows.

ALL of this is due to the TIDAL WAVE of crime associated with illegal aliens from Mexico crossing into our country against our will.

Nearly every state I’ve ever been in as required a course in government in order to get a diploma - what’s one more test?
