What a winner! /s
I voted against Obama. That meant I voted “for” Romney. And so did the overwhelming majority of people on this board. I remember on election day someone in a thread said they did not vote for Romney and when just about everyone else responded he asked that his post be taken off. That being said I will not vote for Jeb under any circumstances. If they nominate him I will likely vote for Hillary. My heart is with Cruz but I don’t think he can win and if he did he would be so hamstrung he could not govern. I am supporting Walker as of now.
No, I did not vote for Romney; I did a write-in vote for Palin.
I voted for Thomas Jefferson (write-in). THAT is a vote to be proud of!
Having pondered that question very deeply here in California where voting for "Republicans" like Romney had been going on for decades, my answer: ABSOLUTELY YES, Obama was a "better" president than Romney would have been in that Obama is a DEMOCRAT. Better to fight tyranny you rejected than tyranny you elected, akalinin.
Thank your lucky stars that Romney LOST because if he'd won, YOU would be responsible and accountable for ENDORSING all the government tyranny (the same on FIVE MAJOR FRONTS as the Democrats, including government-run health care, the homosexual agenda, on-demand abortion, the environmentalist global agenda, and activist DEMOCRAT judges, not to mention amnesty and gun control -- do your due diligence on Romney before you start prattling about what you assume he wouldn't have done) that the guy you voted FOR "against" Obama would have done.
If Romney had won, REPUBLICANS would be responsible and accountable for severe, hard body-blows to conservative Republicans trying to build up strength within the Republican party to reclaim it. When you voted for Romney "against" Obama, you may have INTENDED to move things right, but the person you endorsed would certainly have ACTED to move things left.
Welcome to FR.
When your nose tells you something stinks, it is warning you. Like you, I used to hold my nose while voting, and meanwhile, government kept getting more and more stinky.
In 2012's presidential race, for the first time in more than 35 years of holding my nose and voting for leftist Republicans on the pretense that they were "better" than leftist Democrats, I finally decided ...
... instead of holding my nose, I would HEED my nose. So I voted for what smelled right and healthy: Tom Hoefling, aka Eternal Vigilance, a third-party candidate. I am very happy because I did two things: I endorsed a righteous Christian conservative who advocates for limited government, and I DEPRIVED both leftists, Romney and Obama, of my endorsement, thereby weakening, if in small measure, any mandate they might get.
I am prepared to do the same if necessary in 2016, and I thank the Almighty daily that Mitt Romney LOST in 2012.
Classic example of confusing intent with action.
Responsibility 2nd, put responsibility FIRST and start being responsible for what you voted FOR.
You intended to vote "AGAINST Nobama."
You acted to vote FOR Romney.
You intended to move things right but you acted to move things left.
Be responsible for what you voted FOR and stop buying into the unicorn fantasy of voting "against." When you vote "against," you vote for tooth fairies.
As opposed to voting FOR eight years of Romney and conservatives within the Republican party drowning because you voted FOR it on the vain fantasy that you were voting "against" leftism?
Your way, ken, has been FAILING and WILL FAIL because you are allowing yourself to be manipulated by fear and fantasy into voting "against," which is purely pretend, purely a matter of intent as opposed to a matter of action. You ONLY EVER get to vote FOR. Be accountable for what you are willing to vote FOR, please.
No the country is suffering because of you and people like you. You will never agree with a candidate 100% of time. You gave us eight years of Obama and brought this country to its knees with communism and socialism.
I have only voted FOR someone twice in my voting life since 1968...Ronald Reagan.
Brilliant post.
The Delusion is very strong. They keep voting for candidates that they know will take the country to hell in a handbasket out of abject fear of candidates who they know will take the country to hell in a handbasket. And then they can’t figure out why the country is going to hell in a handbasket.
“Consider well the important trust...which God...[has] put into your hands...To God and posterity you are accountable for [your rights and your rulers]...Let not your children have reason to curse you for giving up those rights and prostrating those institutions which your fathers delivered to you...look well to the characters and qualifications of those you elect and raise to office and places of trust...Think not that your interests will be safe in the hands of the weak and ignorant; or faithfully managed by the impious, the dissolute and the immoral. Think not that men who acknowledge not the providence of God nor regard His laws will be uncorrupt in office, firm in defense of the righteous cause against the oppressor, or resolutely oppose the torrent of iniquity...Watch over your liberties and privileges - civil and religious - with a careful eye.”
— Matthias Burnett
“When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, ‘just men who will rule in the fear of God.’ The preservation of government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the laws; the public revenues will be sqandered on unworthy men; and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded. If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws. “
— Noah Webster, History of the United States
There remains the one standard that has not yet been universally used, namely, the choosing of candidates on moral grounds. A nation always gets the kind of politicians it deserves. When our moral standards are different, our legislation will be different. As long as the decent people refuse to believe that morality must manifest itself in every sphere of human activity, including the political, they will not meet the challenge of Marxism. Contemporary history proves that modern political leaders, devoid of a moral inspiration and relying solely on a mass basis (might makes right), proves ineffectual in time of crisis.”
— Fulton Sheen, COMMUNISM and the CONSCIENCE of the WEST -1948
First, the only people who “gave this country” Obama (snort at the rhetoric) are people who actively voted for him. Second, you can’t vote against a candidate. Third, voting your way is what got us to this point. “Let’s all just take whatever candidate the rest of the GOP chooses! YEH!” Stockholm Syndrome at its finest. It’s like att of you have been in an abusive relationship and don’t know how to leave.
BUMP. Thanks, Arderkrag -- I agree!
You willfully deceive yourself. You intended to vote "against" Obama. However, your action was to accomplish ONE thing, and ONE THING only: to endorse leftward movement in the Republican party. You intended to move things right, but you acted to move things LEFT.
Own what you voted FOR, please. Voting "against" is voting for unicorns.
That's the EV I know and love! Spot on. BUMP.
Tell me something I don't already know. I would have voted for Gingrich in 2012 if he had been nominated, and BELIEVE ME when I tell you I sure as heck didn't agree with him 100 percent of the time, but I'd have voted for him anyway because on balance, he articulated limited government conservatism.
I OPPOSED virtually 100 percent of Romney's governing philosophy as exemplified in his STANDING RECORD and RECORDED STATEMENTS. For an informed Republican conservative, voting for Romney was as nuts as voting for Obama, so I voted third party in order to reduce the popular mandate of whichever leftist won, Romney or Obama.
YOU, on the other hand, voted to increase the popular mandate of a leftist Republican. WORSE, you deceive yourself in pretending that you were voting "against" leftism.
