Not really. Doing data entry, or transcribing doesn’t reach the level of intelligence that is needed to know the reasoning behind the facts. Spewing historical dates as opposed to figuring out what brought about the event is what is important. Why downgrade education even more? I would ban them outside of all classes except computer classes otherwise, why not just transcribe the lecture and just email it to them?
Which brings online courses into question. Does hearing a lecture in addition to taking notes also give a higher score in concepts than just reading a book or other students posts?

Boy, I know in college and grad school taking notes and outlining my texts by synthesizing in my own words made my subject mine. From there I could critique and process well.
