President Obama has led tributes to Stuart Scott, the longtime SportsCenter anchor and ESPN personality who died today from cancer at age 49.
The network says Scott died Sunday and had fought cancer since a diagnosis in late 2007, remaining dedicated to his craft even as he underwent chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
In his sports presenting career, which began in 1987 in South Carolina, he rose from local stations to prominence on the national sports network, coining now-unavoidable phrases including the celebratory 'boo yah'.

Why do most people assume that someone is gay? Yes, there are gays in the entertainment/sports/news industry but still most are heterosexual more times than not. Scott wasn’t gay and was a ladies man in fact
Or is it that it was a black high profile figure and he is sowing more racial dissent?
I agree. Scott loved sports and it came through in his broadcasts.
I don’t know if he coined any memorable phrases or not...but he was a decent sports anchor. Actually had some measurable level of talent, unlike certain current Presidents one might name.
The President of Trivia. This guy was so important that he deserved a mention by the President of the United States of Americas? Or could it be because he was black?
“Obama leads tributes to ESPN anchor”

And during the election cycles, the headlines would have been:
ESPN Anchor Leads Tributes to Obama
It got pretty infuriating, and became a big reason I stopped watching ESPN, and greatly contributed to my distaste for pro sports in general.
Scott was taken to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy in 1997; during that procedure, the doctors discovered the cancer, which eventually spread to other organs. Saw cause of death listed as stomach cancer.
He began his career at WPDE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Florence, SC—just about the bottom run of the broadcast ladder. My in-laws live in eastern South Carolina, and I have seen quite a few newscasts on WPDE and its competition, WBTW. Watched Scott as a rookie sportscaster on WPDE in the late 80s; even then, it was clear that he was destined for a Top 10 market, if not one of the networks. He also had the good sense to stay at ESPN while others (helloooo, Keith Olbermann) bailed.
He’s pandering to the jock sniffing retards of society.
In fairness, Scott & his wife divorced in 2007, and she took him for a lot of loot: $600k/yr in alimony, ~$700/wk in child support, plus he had been paying for his daugnters’ educational expenses, including his eldest’s $60k/yr college costs. His 2007 income was $1.9M, perhaps the peak during the first time he was Dx w/ cancer. He met his 26 y/o girlfriend in 2013, the year his C returned a third time. She’s a client rep w/ United Health insurance; if I had to guess, I’d say they met b/c of his illness. All that said, Scott brought black street slang to ESPN, even though he could speak precise English. Some may see that as progress; I say it was catering to the greatest common factor of black Americans, a form of self-imposed racism & segregation, and another example of the soft bigotry of low expectations. RIP, Mr. Scott.
Obama ain't got time for that.
It doesn't really make me wonder. I would say it illustrates his priorities.
Don't comment on a subject you know nothing about. This "sportscaster" transcended race in his field, and was well-liked by everyone.
Ex-wife (and mother) was replaced by cute girlfriend
Yes and it spread to his bibliogrphy
I think you miss the point, Obummer will not praise police officers assassinated, but comes out licking his chops to praise this guy, why? It is not Scott is gay that is questioned. It is that Obuttfuck did not have a chance to stuff it to him.
Obama’s speeches are so predictable:
I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me, Myself, Myself, Myself, Myself, Scott something, where was I, oh yeah, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me, Me. Myself, Myself, Myself, Myself, Myself.
I’ll comment where and when I please...
The point is that he was in “entertainment” and that your president sees fit to heap tributes on entertainers more than those who work to make this country a better place.
Don’t care if he was liked or “transcended race”...more PC Bull$hit on FR...
