Some new patients with that kind of mental illness absolutely should not be living under the same roof with their parents, because those parents may not be safe. A small percentage of clients will expect too much of their folks.They may expect mom and dad to fix them, so to speak. When it’s clear the parents cannot necessarily fix them. I’ve seen young patients become embittered and surly to those who love them the most.
Then comes the other problem of finding a suitable, affordable
place for this person to live long-term. Not always easy, from
what I’ve observed.
