Time to bring back Vigilante Justice. There would simply be no laws other than an unwritten code and of course the Golden Rule. Vigilante Justice was born out of dissatisfaction with a corrupt Justice System. Vigilante Justice recognizes only right and wrong. There is no such thing as a grey area. One is either guilty or not. And as for punishment, if found guilty there is either banishment or hanging, and it is swift.

Not that I necessarily disagree with you, but the problem with the vigilantes was that they were often just a lynch mob with no concern about whether the crime had actually been committed, or if it had, if the accused was the one committing it.

On the other hand, it would help if people who shot in self-defense were not labeled as “vigilantes”, as they are not. They are not concerned with justice, or right and wrong, but with preserving their lives.

Throughout American history vigilante groups either did their work and quickly disbanded, or they led to the formation of anti-vigilante groups to oppose their excesses, and something very like civil war.
