I worked at a gas station during the Summer when I was a kid.

The gas caps generally didn’t give me a problem but sometimes the hood latch was hard to find. Back then we used to check under the hood and also sweep out the front floor. That was before they began to put your feet in deep wells so you have to use a vacuum.

I remember one old Black guy came in and the oil was black as soot. I asked him if he ever changed it and he laughed and said “it changes itself.

Funny story on the oil change.

I worked in a couple of gas stations, as did many of my friends. It was the best way to be able to work on our cars and keep tabs on everyone who was cruising town.

We'd pump the gas, check the oil, check the tires and wash the windshield which was especially pleasurable when the pretty girls came in for fuel.
