MEXICO CITY, - Bullfighter Karla de los Angeles was tossed over a bull's head and gored twice Sunday as she went in for the kill at Mexico City's famous Plaza Mexico.
De los Angeles suffered 5-inch gashes on her right thigh and left buttock when the bull, named Gamusino, tossed her over his head and pierced her with his horns at Monumental Plaza Mexico, the country's largest bullfighting ring. The 1,100-pound bull also gored assistant Federico Dominguez as he tried to help de los Angeles out of the ring.
De los Angeles is a novillera, an aspiring bullfighter who has not reached the rank of matador. As a woman, she is considered rare in the male-dominated world of bullfighting.
The fourth bull of the afternoon jumped over the protective barriers surrounding the ring. The bull made contact with a breeder, Gonzalo Martinez, and injured his hand.
Not to be outdone, the fifth bull also jumped the barriers and injured Cesar Sanchez, another assistant, who suffered multiple facial fractures. Sanchez is in the hospital in serious condition.
Two other assistants suffered bruises and were taken to the infirmary.
Human injuries in bullfights are uncommon but considered part of the risk of taking part in the sport.

Sometimes the bull wins—Bullfights trace their roots to Roman Games. Bulls that injure the bullfighter are honored as “Brava” We eat cattle—these bulls get some revenge.

You’re right of course. Bullfighting has no roots in Islam. It’s a remnant of the Spaniard’s Roman-European heritage. Bull fighting is less cruel than the dog fightings and bear baitings of old that took place in Merry Old England.
But since bull fighting is a Hispanic thing, Hispanics are nothing but uncouth violent barbarians who deserve less respect than animals. On this pro-life site, rather than wishing the supposedly cruel process would just come to an end, posters cheer when a human being is gored or killed. As enlightened Anglo-culture has ditched every ounce of supposed violence from their heritage (expect for abortion-on-demand, government mandated euthanasia, etc.,) in favor of a kinder, gentler future, they spit on upon these forms of archaic cruelty.
The Spaniards, like all peoples, have blood and sins of their hands, but for some reason their customs and history are considered much more vile than that of any other Western Europeans. Like the Eastern Europeans, Spaniards spent hundreds of years fighting off Islamics to keep Europe relatively safe from the infidels. That required being a more ruthless kind of warrior than what many Northern Europeans were accustomed to. As one can see the Black Legend is still in effect.
To the bullfighters I say Ole. And to the bulls that die, I honor their valor and fighting spirit. This is a way to never forget history and culture.

That’s a great photo. It reminds me of a line from a John Wayne movie (”The Cowbows”, IIRC), referring to “1,000 pounds of trouble in a leather bag”.
That's how I'd feel! Can't imagine hurting an animal for no reason other than it exists.
