Let’s abandon the Democrats: Stop blaming Fox News and stop hoping Elizabeth Warren will save us

Progressives have no power in a corporate, focus-grouped, Wall Street-leaning party. But we are the change we need

The Democrats’ conduct since the midterm debacle is as sad and sorry as the campaign that caused it. The party’s leaders are a big problem. A bigger one is the closed system of high-dollar fundraising, reductionist polling and vapid messaging in which it is seemingly trapped. Some say a more populist Democratic Party will soon emerge. It won’t happen as long as these leaders and this system are in place.

Nancy Pelosi says it wasn’t a wave election. She’s right. It was the Johnstown Flood; as catastrophic and just as preventable. One year after the shutdown Republicans scored their biggest Senate win since 1980 and their biggest House win since 1928. Turnout was the lowest since 1942, when millions of GIs had the excellent excuse of being overseas fighting for their country.

You could rewrite that article substituting conservative for progressive and it would read like many posts here on freerepublic.

I got bored after a few paragraphs. Didn’t Salon go broke? Judging from their list of articles, they’re just obnoxious left-wing whiners.

Whoa-is he talking third party?

Since the 19th century, progressive movements have created the blueprints and the public groundswells needed to enact them. Can progressives build such a movement in this century? They can do it but they’ll have to take a time-out from electoral politics. They must declare their independence from the Democratic Party, its ineffectual politics and its current, clueless leaders.

“But, there they go again; government creates “stuff”. The main difference between Progressives and Conservatives.”

The low-level progressives see the same problems as the TEA party. It’s just that they have this unshakable faith that if they just elected the right people and gave them all the power and money they need, things would get better. The reality is, rulers with all the power and money they need will invariably turn into crony corporatist/unionists/planned parenthoodists/race baiters (i.e. fascists) in America because the corporations/unions/NGO’s/race hucksters are the ones with enough money to buy the use of the power and money.

To date, Obama is the apotheosis of progressivism precisely because his followers gave him control of more money and power than any American has previously known. And he shamelessly sold out to wall street, green energy, big labor, big racism and others. Were Warren to be elected, she would be a new apotheosis for them. But they view what they have wrought and scream “that wasn’t what we meant.” No, it wasn’t. But that’s what they will always get because more money and power to people who command the army and police will always end up in a similar place.

OTOH, the high-level progressives who run the show know exactly what they are doing and Dante needs to invent another ring of Hell for them. What they got was exactly what they wanted—control over money, power, and the lives of Americans.

Interesting that this far-left publication is admitting that the government shutdown did nothing to hurt Republicans.

It is precisely because the Progressives have hijacked the Democratic party of the 50’s and 60’s that most Americans have are now rejecting it. Despite their beliefs to the contrary America is still a predominately conservative country.

Amazing piece. Turn all the arguments 180 degrees...and it could be us railing about the Republican party.

Once again proving that today's po9litical conflict is less about liberal vs conservative or Democrat vs Republican, but about Washington vs The Rest of Us.
