Here's a picture of the radio--not THE radio, but one of the same models from the 1937-1938 run--that we're looking at buying from an antique mall. A Sears Silvertone 4789. The one we're checking out is in good condition, but we don't yet know how much of it works. Keith can fix it, though.

Very nice! That's where mine (well, ours - she wanted it as much as I did) came from - an antiques mall here in the area called Timeless Antiques. Places like that yield a lot of hidden treasure at good prices, if you know what you're look for and at. Over several years, I've also procured a dozen quality, German-made beer steins for my collection from there. Some of the vendors just get estate property on consignment and sell it off in their retail space. We're waiting until the big tree in the living room is put away next weekend before we settle the Philco into it's new appointed spot. Then we'll concentrate on getting the basic electrical/tube triage done after we come back from Maryland on the 11th and take it from there. In the meantime, the cats seem to be really enjoying their new perch. LOL
