Is Jameis Winston Worth the Trouble?

There’s so much to like about Winston—his strength, playmaking and toughness—but his off-field behavior is so distressing. Should he declare for the NFL draft, the FSU quarterback will be subjected to a predraft background check that will make last year’s scrutiny of Johnny Manziel look like a casual glance

Don Brown had just spent an hour inside the Boston College defensive film room, dissecting the performance of Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston in their Nov. 22 game in Tallahassee. Brown, 59, has been a college defensive coordinator or a head coach since 1984. He’s been in charge of defenses in the ACC and the Big East for the past six years. Basically, Brown, who coined the “Be a dude” mantra that has popularized Steve Addazio’s program on the recruiting trails, has coached and defended a bunch of dudes in his time.

The story I heard from that incident is that the grocery store had a long history of “helping” out the FSU football players with food. It was understood. That day there was some kind of dispute and Winston took the blame for everyone else. At least that’s what I heard.

Go back and read. I said you sounded like a Ferguson protestor. I didn't put a label on you. There is a big difference between the two. I tell you my story because there are people on FR that have an acute sense of the fundamentals of the criminal justice system, not only shaped by academics, but by experience.

If you don't appreciate that, you are an idiot.

My main point goes back to this thread—Winston is a thug and not worth it for any team in the NFL. He’s trouble and his decisions produce that trouble.

I understand the media will paint whatever picture suites their narrative. Happens all the time which is why FReepers HATE the media.

My personal experience with the criminal justice system is to avoid it at all costs. Juries don’t pay attention to details anymore and make decisions based on emotion—that’s exactly what lawyers want.

He’s already a criminal-rapist!

That is what you said, sir. You have a problem with logic. May I suggest "Socratic Logic" by Kreef? It is college text in many Christian universities, and is the under appreciated part of humanities that holds a society together.

You position is what one would expect from the Huffington Post/Democrat Underground. He has not been convicted of ANYTHING to warrant that characterization.

If he fails in the NFL, that is his problem. Christian Ponder, Geno Smith, Johnny Football and RGIII look like failures too. It's a hard position.

Or, he could have the talent (as he has shown at FSU), to put a whole team on his shoulders and compete for National Titles. But either way, he has not been proven to be a thug or a rapist.

We can make excuses for problem-children or hold them accountable. My logic is perfectly fine, thank you very much! That you don’t agree with it, doesn’t make it wrong. Learn to deal with with people who come to differing conclusions.

Oh...the usual FReeper “troll” accusation when one doesn’t agree with another. BS & an easy cop out. Again, we can disagree. I still say he’s a thug.
