One of my husband s favorite sandwiches is peanut butter and a pickle on rye. Elvis Presley liked his peanut butter sandwiches with banana and bacon, and Hemingway liked thick onion slices in his. Ninety-four percent of American households have a jar on hand. The stuff lasts forever, so in a nuclear war situation you can always rely on it for sustenance. It can be stored safely unrefrigerated for two years.
I, on the other hand, have a love/hate relationship with it, and if I do ever eat it, I do so in the traditional manner, as a solo spread or with its mate, jelly! At other times, I abhor the stuff and, even when scrounging around for something to eat, will bypass it.
I had always thought that peanut butter was as American as apple pie and mom and was never eaten before we Americans took over from the British. Not true. It was actually an Aztec dish, but eaten as a paste, not a spread. I bet they didnt eat it with jelly either, or put it into their kids lunch boxes.

Ditto for Booker T. Washington.
That’s my brand now, too! My hubby used to have a PB and Vidalia onion sandwich almost every day! YUCK! But he absolutely loved them.
I’m not a fan of grape jelly, so I always use strawberry jelly or jam with my PB.
Peanut butter definitely doesn’t last forever in my house. My wife and I both love it. Suffice to say we don’t ever have to worry about it spoiling!
My favorite snack lately is a PB&J with some of wifey’s homemade peach preserves.
I love that peanut butter. And I do not drive a Prius.
I like it best right off the spoon...
Hubby might like those. And pickles basically have zero calories. Thanks, I’ll look for them!
Very good peanut butter.
My horses do it on their own, but not on command. So, if I needed them to perform for the camera, I’m sure that the peanut butter would have worked.
Yeah. I also don’t like grape jelly so much.
I can see strawberry jam, but I am stuck on boysenberry. Don’t know why, but it, to me, towers above any and all other fruit spreads.
Toasted muffins with peanut butter and strawberry preserves is a real treat.
I posted a thread a few days ago which I would love to see you respond to.
“Jalapeno peppers stuffed with peanut butter is killer too.”
Raw or do you bake them like a popper? Hmm, wrap some bacon around it, might have to give it a try.
“Peanut butter breath. Yuk.”
I knew a guy many years ago, decades actually, who kept peanut butter in the car with him because he thought it was an instant breath cleaner so that if he got pulled over the cops wouldn’t be able to detect alcohol on his breath.
With oatmeal. I spread it in the bowl before putting the oatmeal in there. The heat from the hot oatmeal melts the PB and then I mix them together. Sometimes add raisins and / or honey. Unbelievably good!
Yum; I love it, we’re exchanging PB recipes :-)
I used to buy Jif exclusively. Then I became concerned about hydrogenated oil. Went au naturele. Constantly keeping the runny oil mixed in was a pain.
Then I discovered Skippy “Natural” Creamy and Super Chunk. 100% non-hydrogenated, but no loose oil; no mixing required. I was skeptical as to how they pulled that off. Ingredients listed Palm Oil. Ah so? That explains it. Palm oil and coconut oil are solids at room temp, and are as good or better for you than peanut oil. Now I keep a jar of each handy. Thinking about getting a double holster belt made that will hold Skippy jars so I can pack PB at all times. And I’ll carry my piece concealed.
Jif Extra Crunchy with picante sauce on home made bread for me. Pure Heaven!
Great, thanks...I plan to get some. Jalapena chips, on rare occasions. I like spicy food. Jalapena burgers....and now with bread and butter chips...great.
My favorite pizza is one I now make myself. I have to get the thin crust pizza shells w/sauce packets at Aldi’s and use mix of Mexican Cheese and Mozzarella, then add slices of fresh Jalapeno on top. Bake and WOW it’s great.
Of course all of these are not daily fare, but things to enjoy on the weekend.
Never tried it with pickles. Sounds interesting.
