"We were looking to measure a certain particle called dueterium," said Alexander. It is this element that would confirm or scuttle the theory of comets hydrating Earth. And, as it turned out, Rosetta's data cast a strong doubt that comets were our aquatic benefactors.

In the beginning....
Perhaps, God created the heavens and the earth...just saying

I personally think the water came from various sources. Plus there’s the fact that 67P/ChuryumovGerasimenko is a very short term comet and probably doesn’t represent all comets well.
The amount of water on the earth’s surface alone makes it pretty obvious that it did not come from comets. There aren’t enough comets out there. Besides, where do comets get their water that earth couldn’t also get it from?
So just because one comet is this way means we can close the book?
Point, set, match... We have a Winner.
I bet it was “in the beginning....”
The water came from a rain delay during a Cubs game in Chicago...thought it would never stop...
And that would preclude comets , how?
The comet theory seems too simple to me. It will be complicated and so far out (LOL) that those who discover it will have to admit it was the hand of the Creator. The clue is in Genesis 1
Then God said, Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters. 7 God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. 8 God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
9 Then God said, Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear; and it was so. 10 God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.
I've been thinking the exact same thing. This should be called "the kicking the can down the road" fallacy.
Contrary to popular belief, all comets were not created equal......
And if that doesn't explain things, then try trioterium or perhaps quarteterium* ....
No telling what sorts of combinations of elements could come about and end up on the surfaces of planets if the space between planets and galaxies was so hospitable.
Sample size of 1 closes the door?
Earth formed in portion of solar system known as “rock zone”
where volatile elements were evaporated by the sun’s heat
Most of the water came from farther out in the solar system
in the “ice zone”
Look at Europa (Moon of Jupiter) which is covered in ice
Al Gore made millions off that concept.
Everyone knows that when the temperature on mars became too cool from the SUVs we pumped all the water here to Earth.
I’d respect the source more if they had spelled “deuterium” correctly.
