VICTORIA, TX -- A Victoria police officer has been placed on administrative duty after his dashboard camera caught him Tasering an elderly man.

In the video obtained by the Victoria Advocate, Officer Nathanial Robinson is seen arresting 76-year-old Pete Vasquez, when he suddenly throws Vasquez onto the hood of the car, pulls him to the ground and Tasers him.

Vasquez said the cop acted more like a pit bull than a police officer.

"I turn around and he pulled that Taser and he shot me with it, and you know it looked like he's enjoying that," Vasquez said.

Listen to the music the cop was playing in his patrol car.
Want to know what it was?

Doesn't it make you feel better knowing that a police officer was driving around listening to that BS?
I wonder if it had any influence on his decision to not take any lip from some old geezer.

"Taking lip" CAN be assaulting someone...depends on what was said and how it was said. "Lip" can not only be abusive but it CAN be threatening. If it was threatening, then the cop may have felt threatened and ZAPPED the old buzzard.

The old buzzard knew exactly what he was doing.

Just sayin'.

good thing the old guy didn’t have a dog in the car...it would have gone to heaven with all the good dogs.

I saw the video the other day.

While you can’t quite hear the words, it is obvious the officer told the man to turn around and put his arms behind his back. The officer grabs the man’s hand to prepare to place handcuffs on him. The man resists arrest, pushing backwards against the officer which knocks them both to the ground.

Maybe, but as a prior LEO I never felt threatened by a 70+ year old person unless they had a weapon in hand. I would find it very embarrassing and emasculating that I could not handle that type of subject as a viral young man.

I’ve watched the video. The cop, I would suspect, is on something...either doping up on steroids or some type of PCP mixture. I personally think all cops ought to be up for a monthly golden-flow drug-test episode...like the military conducts. Course, it’d mean you’d fire the guys who fail, and you don’t have a great funnel available with competent recruits to pick from.

Even if you what you say is completely accurate, why was the cop cuffing the man over a missing registration tag? That is not even a criminal code violation, it is an infraction of the vehicle code, basically a tax violation. The officer should have written him a ticket, not tried to cuff him.

Get this kid off the force before he kills someone.

"Lip" can not only be abusive but it CAN be threatening.
Perhaps in some assault situations, mouthing off threats accompanied by a reasonable belief the person can follow through could certainly be considered a threat. But in this case, I think you would have a *VERY* difficult time convincing a reasonable and prudent person that this 76 yr old geezer could do much more than "talk" a good fight.

Regardless, the bottom line is that this young, seemingly healthy cop lacked the skills, discretion and/or physical capability of controlling the *FAR* less strong/capable 76 yr old geezer without resorting to a significant escalation of force without any apparent justification.

I don't believe he has any business being on patrol if his judgement, skills and physical capabilities are that deficient. AT THE VERY LEAST, I'd have him riding a desk until he proved otherwise. I'd also like to know if his patrol SGT, LT and CPT were unaware of his problems and if so, why they were unaware.

We need fewer Barney Fifes and more Andy Griffiths.

Cops have bad days too. Also, this might not have been the FIRST time this geezer had words with the cop.

I lived in Mexico for two years and Saudi Arabia for five. OUR U.S. cops are SO much better, smarter, more honest, more educated, more decent and more reliable that 99% of ALL the cops in second (Commmie) and third world countries.

We Americans just DON'T know how LOW standards are for police in those countries and how HIGH our standards are.

I've SUGGESTED to those U.S. cop-haters that they go LIVE in a second or third world country for a month, week or day and just SEE the differences.
They WON'T do it, of course, since it's FAR easier to just sit HERE in the U.S.A. and gripe about cops, condemning the entire force of the thin blue line.

I wonder if it had any influence on his decision to not take any lip from some old geezer.

It didn't seem so. What seemed to lead to the 'arrest' was:

The man didn't pull over when the officer turned on his lights. He kept going and pulled into the parking lot of a business he was apparently headed to (or maybe it was just convenient) and tried to get out of his car and walk on into the business like nothing was wrong. I have seen that tactic used many times. People think if they get into a private parking lot that they are 'safe' and the police can't come on private property and arrest them.

The officer had pulled him over because his plates didn't have a current 'sticker' on them.

The cop decided to place the man in handcuffs while he sorted out the plates problem, and the man tried to fight him off.

I have heard plenty of rap music. It never made me want to rough anyone up.

Yep. It's been tough to attract good candidates for a loooooong time. Most applicants are bullies and when you add steroids...

I agree it looks like steroid rage to me.

All the police are drug tested right?

Tasering anyone over an inspection sticker isn’t one bad day. It’s one bad cop. The ex-cop sitting next to me agrees.

You don't know what the man said to the officer. For all we know, he could have been telling the cop to screw off because he was on private property and thought the cop couldn't arrest him or ticket him for the problem with the plates.

I would find it very embarrassing and emasculating that I could not handle that type of subject as a viral young man.

You imply that you cannot be knocked over easily in the midst of a physical confrontation. Especially by an older man. Yet if you watch the video, you see it happen. It isn't that hard to do, especially if the younger 'officer' doesn't expect it coming from a 70+ year old man. It appears that the old man shoved backwards at the right time and caught the officer off balance.
