Anyone watching this scene, especially parents whose offspring are long flown the nest, will feel a mixture of nostalgia and pleasure. Who could believe, then, that Katie sued the NHS for allowing all this to happen? She held her health authority directly responsible for the accidental pregnancy which, she says, robbed her of her youth, independence, ambitions and her future when its negligence allowed Niamh to come into the world.
For Katie was 18 when she became pregnant. She’d just finished her AS-levels and was hoping to train as a dental nurse. To make matters worse, she’d broken up with her boyfriend — her first proper relationship — days before. Needless to say, Katie was devastated.

Far be it from me to defend the NHS, but anyone who screws is BEGGING for this to happen. There is no coincidence that since BC Pill and all the other innovations in “control”, illegitimacy has shot sky-high. SELF-control completely went out the window.

Her ‘hip’ Mother is a lost cause in properly advising her daughter. A so-called ‘Catholic’ who has no understanding of sin and its consequences to the soul. The mother aids the daughter in getting contraceptives so the daughter can be promiscuous, and then claims she was proud of how mature the daughter was.
There were a few pleasant surprises, however - the pregnant Mom did not have an abortion; she loves her child.
What a muddled mess it is when people who claim to be Christian do not abide by the Gospel, and the words of the Redeemer. They ought to go back to Kindergarten and relearn their catechism.

You got me there. I THINK it's because they are, without doubt, nice people but were never encouraged to THINK about such issues as ABORTION, that is, beyond the one-line quip: sure, all women should have a CHOICE.
They believe in CHOICE but when confronted with THIS life and death choice, they are WAY, WAY over their heads.
That's my read.
This is about obtaining a payoff from the “wrongful birth” trust which is for defect and disability births.
