Everyone has heard of the formidable German assault rifle, the G36the successor to the reliable G3. Both are Heckler & Koch products.
You can find the G3 all around the world, as the rifle is in the top five for small arms sales.
The G36 is different. Its actually quite rare outside of Europe. And for good reason. Its got a bad reputation.

Like some of their weaponry in WW2. Advanced, accurate, and well put together. So well put together that the parts froze and became inoperable in Russia.
As if they plan on using it anytime soon
The G3 came from that...so maybe.
THe G3 was certainly good enough. They should have stayed with it.
Germany actually made a bad firearm. I am shocked.
They never planned to use it in a War , D’oh
Back in June, there was an article about the G36

The rifle’s point of aim shifts when the barrel heats up under sustained use. Like in, you know, combat...
Not to worry. The Bundeswehr will come up with a Zeiss red dot sight with an infrared barrel temperature monitor and onboard aimpoint computing to correct for the drift.
It looks like a big rifle in some pics and the standard sights are shite (although everyone is going to an optical sight now) .

Sounds familiar

At least the generals telling soldiers that its a good rifle .. you just don’t know how to use it... etc...
No argument with your comment, but the article used the phrase “operate properly”, which I would equate to internal parts heating up to the point of creating an interference fit and jamming. Maybe both are happening.
And the Sturmgewehr 44 is proven in combat, including Russia’s cold winters.
I have an American made G3 type rifle ‘PTR-91’. I totally love it! It’s dead on accurate with open sites, and packs a serious punch with the 7.62NATO(.308). It was a true thrill to open that box and seeing a brand new, pristine HK91(G3) rifle new in the box. That rifle has been like a dream come true. I’d advise everyone to get one, if you can!
I’ve never tried the G36.
HK G63
Delayed roller action is a heartwarming thing.
I concur! I got the G.I. version. I usually have a love hate relationship with my weapons, but this one is a keeper- reliable, accurate, good terminal ballistics, easy to break down/clean, simple to operate, and good fixed sights!
Round about via the CETME.
LOL— along with a 12 cylinder microcomputer controlled sled to haul it.
The down side - it doesn't float. I recommend against taking it boating (I know, too late for many of us on FR).
