The Daily Show comedian Jon Stewart negatively affects public discourse.
Jon Stewarts impact on the media and politics is undeniable. NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams has noted that, when he presents a news story Jons always in the back of my mind, and that Stewarts The Daily Show hold[s] people to account, for errors and sloppiness its healthy. Stewart is often seen in this lightas a comedic check on the excesses of hypocritical politicians and the press that enables them. Stewart is a channel for the frustration many feel against those in power, and a voice for those without.
But for all the praise Stewart has received, some of it justly deserved, we should also discuss the negative impacts of The Daily Show, and of comedy-news programs more generally. Although immensely entertaining, irresistibly likeable, and at times informative, Stewart is doing great damage to the public discourse in this country. He is, of course, not the main culprit of this. But his approach is indicative of the national mood and illustrative of how not to engage with those we disagree with. The Daily Show is at fault in two primary ways: its reliance on caricatures and its promotion of cynicism.

Seeing him on O'Reilly occasionally is my exposure to him.
It seems that his brand of reporting the "news" is popular with our young, low information voters.
Too bad they vote too.
Dave? Dave’s not here, man.
Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz is an idiot who masks his progressive leftist political brainwashing as humor.
Jon Stewart: Lies Caged in Comedy to distort and alter eprception of reality.
Rush Limbaugh: Using Truth to Illustrate Abusurdity in a Humours Manner.
Which one do you want?
He’s part of the left’s media plan. They’ll share talking points and he’s the ‘young college / urban hipster’ guy. Sad most of his audience treats it as ‘news.’
Jon Stewart never presents an objective view, and it is very likely that Stewart receives Talking Points from the Obama White House and the DNC.
by his pack of objectivity his being a perveyor of the Democratic message on our public airwaves, the Daily Show should be deemed a political commercial for the Democratic Party and thus fall under FEC regulations.
If you watch him your brainwashing has already been completed.
I have two friends that use this clown as there only source for news. They are so misinformed on every issue.
Stewart simply caters to the mentality of the left. Perpetual adolescents that think everything is a joke.

Jon is a “True Believer”, they don’t need Talking Points shoveled to them like a hog in a feed house, they only need their soap boxes to spew theuir ingrained garbage, occasionally they will gwet some “Guidance” from the party aparatchiks, but they are mostly wind up toys that had their keys wound up in liberal colleges so much that their keys broke....

“Laugh-In” looked at the news too but you knew it was kinda hokey and no big deal.
The little snippets I’ve seen of Stewart’s show is basically him showing a video clip of some Republican doing or saying something Stewart didn’t like, and then Stewart making a snide/sarcastic remark about the Republican. I guess if you’re a liberal, that’s what constitutes hysterically funny, political commentary.
Neither does the "Six O'clock News".
One of my lib brothers really believes Stewart’s and Colbert’s shows constituted trenchant political commentary. I asked my bro if he ever read or listened to any conservative media outlets. He did not. In fact, as it turned out I was digesting far more liberal media errata than he was.
I am 40. I run in to people my own age at pubs who’s only source of news is John Liebowitz. They treat him as if he is the end all be all of news information. Sad.
I really don’t understand how a guy with ratings of 1 - 1.5 gets so much coverage. Reruns on METv get more viewers.
