I just got off the phone with Blue Cross. They informed me that my premium for Obamacare will be going from $84.00 to $204.00 per month starting January, 2015. The bill will be here just before Christmas. We are very low income and have not made any changes to warrant this increase. We cannot afford it. So if you have Obamacare, you might want to call and find out what your Christmas surprise will be.
I’ll give you three scenario’s... from information I found yesterday....
My neighbor came over to ask me to help her figure out a health plan so she won’t be penalized..... she makes 18K/yr and has a son 19 and 3 “others” who live in the same house with free rent thru section 8.... on the marketplace she got coverage for her and the 19yo... Humana plan $27/mo the rest is subsidized.... $750 ded each, $750 out of pocket max each... $25 copay dr.....
My 22yo disabled son (autistic)... has had state Medicaid for 2 months and loses it in Jan... does not qualify for subsidy based on his $821/mo SSDI income that starts in Jan... cheapest plan that will NOT cover his medical costs until ded is met is $139/mo on the Market Place.. He can’t afford the premiums/copays/deductibles for a plan and pay out of pocket for his weekly therapy, monthly dr. appt, and tuition for community college job skills training that starts in Jan....
My husband and myself... he makes too much for a subsidy for us (not that we’d take it anyway)... cheapest plan that does NOT cover crap $538 on the Market Place... employer coverage (HMO) that will be available Jan 1st with $3500 ded each and out of pocket max of $6600 ea... does NOT cover labs/xrays/er or anything of significance (not even hubby’s bp meds) except the yearly “free” check up. Our cost (after employer pays 1/2 of hubby’s prem) is $460/mo... it’s basically a catastrophic plan...
I’m all for helping those who truly need help... especially those trying to better themselves... but this health insurance debacle is absolutely ridiculous and does nothing but penalize those who are responsible for their own lives, rewards those who jip the system, and doesn’t do anything to help those who truly need the help. I guess hubby was right when he said “It just doesn’t pay to be good honest hard working people anymore”
I thought maybe they were rigging the numbers by saying that rates would go up 5% more, above and beyond the 120% they may have already gone up.
I'm retired military with TriCare and so far it is still good for us - I have no doubt it will eventually be destroyed and supplanted if Obama Care is allowed to "evolve".
Kinda like... A bear's Catholic and the Pope goes potty in the woods.
