It was after dark. I was taking a short cut to the convenience store through an alley. Ahead of me, a middle-aged white woman was walking down a side street and started to enter the alley. Upon realizing that I would be walking behind her, she made a quick turn out of the alley. Once inside the convenience store, I saw the woman come in. We were headed to the same destination, but she chose to take a different route.
As a black man, should I be offended for being racially profiled? Well guess what? The night before, a late night craving sent me headed to the convenience store down that same alley. A block away, I saw a white guy as he began to enter the alley. He and I would eventually cross paths. I immediately did a quick turn out of the alley. It was late and dark, without another single soul in sight.

About a year ago, I was talking to my daughter on the phone. She was coming out of class and heading to her car. Suddenly she screamed. I asked what happened and she said some girl came off a porch and pulled her hair.
I said “Was she black?” She said yes.
My next word was RUN.
She did and got to her car safely.
Was I profiling? You bet I was.
Well said, Lloyd Marcus!
People who live in cities do this all the time. Males and females.
What is arbitrarily calling someone who disagrees with you a “racist”, but profiling?
“Profiling” is instinctive and learned reactions to obvious or perceived danger. And when you hear about black-on-black, and black-on-whites crime E V E R Y. D A M N. D A Y it sort of sends up flags as a possible source of danger. When you hear some black yelling “kill whitey” E V E R Y. D A M N. D A Y”, and you’re white, it might put you on alert.
My dog “profiles”. She instinctively knows what constitutes possible danger.
Without the ability to “profile”, we would be but robots. We couldn’t learn the basics of safety. It falls in the category of “all guns being considered loaded”, based on the statistics of the number of people shot by supposed “unloaded” guns; a child learns to consider all stoves to “hot”, and to look both ways before crossing the street.
It’s based on reputation, so things and people that have a reputation to be dangerous “profiled”.
Most people will not believe the meme “black lives matter” until places like Chicago are cleared of “black-on-black” murders daily, and the crime rates for blacks go down, all we hear is hypocrisy.
