The mother of murder suspect Brittany Martin said her daughter "had not a clue" about any scheme to kill Reserve couple Kenneth and Lakeitha Joseph, and that she herself played no part in her daughter's reunion with co-defendant Horatio Johnson.
Speaking publicly for the first time about her daughter's arrest, Rhonda Martin said she is concerned that media coverage of the highly publicized double-murder has been prejudicial against her daughter. Brittany Martin is a former prison guard who New Orleans police say was caught on video purchasing items with Johnson that police believe were used to murder the Josephs.
"I know she had not a clue" about any murder plot, Rhonda Martin said. "She's a sweet girl -- outgoing, happy-go-lucky, and now this. She's never been in trouble."
In court documents authorities said Brittany Martin resigned as a guard at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel while she was under investigation for "engaging in an improper relationship" with Johnson, who was imprisoned there on a manslaughter conviction.

And she was probably going to College in the fall.
I missed the episode of the first 48 that dealt with this crime but from the comments from the article it sounds like this women knew all about it.
“And she was probably going to College in the fall.”
And, she was a gentle princess.
Aspiring rapette?
Just wondering, only a mother was mentioned.
The father?
Oh, forgot.
Never mind.
If she worked as a prison guard, SURELY she had training that would have clued her into the potential for this outcome. I am not buying the mom’s “she’s so innocent” blather.
Must be the only person named ‘Brittany’ ever arrested for murder.
And an aspiring rapper.
“30-pound kettlebells”
I have three questions: what is a kettlebell? does it have anything to do with a bbell? what was the motive for these murders?
Never heard of kettlebells before, but googled them and by george, they are THE perfect items for weighting down a dead body that’s to be tossed into water!
I think the motive was robbery but I'm not sure. We will find out more soon.
