The college football playoff committee has released its latest ranking and it is a terrible sign for the undefeated defending national champions, Florida State.
The one big shakeup in the ranking came with TCU jumping up to take the spot in the top four vacated by Mississippi State who lost to Ole Miss. But more importantly, TCU leapfrogged past Florida State who fell to no. 4 after struggling to get by Florida.
Here are the new rankings for the seven teams that still have a realistic shot to make the playoff: 1.Alabama 2.Oregon 3.TCU 4.Florida State 5.Ohio State 6.Baylor 7.Arizona
The good news for Florida State is that they are still in the top four. The bad news is that, in theory, they would not be if Mississippi State had beaten Ole Miss.

Florida State Quarterback In Second Day Of Rape Case Hearing
Reuters

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Reuters) - A school conduct code hearing looking into rape allegations against Florida State University star quarterback Jameis Winston entered a second day on Wednesday in a crucial week for one of America's highest profile athletes.
The 20-year-old sophomore, the top U.S. college football player last year after winning the Heisman Trophy, competes on Saturday in a conference title game that could decide whether the Florida State Seminoles advance to the sport's first collegiate playoffs.
Yet Winston's off-field behavior is under intense scrutiny as a former Florida Supreme Court justice hears testimony in a twice-delayed student disciplinary proceeding into allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman two years ago.

FSU Criminoles can watch it on TV...................
B.S.
Florida State wins they are in.
Oregon Baylor TCU and one more should be in the final four assuming all win this week.
If FSU beats GT they are in. The major question is whether Winston will be expelled before the Playoff. Given this is FSU I doubt that will happen.
Maybe Jameis should be a special guest on “Deadlist Catch” during King Crab season.
This committee system is bunk. A team in a major conference that hasn’t lost in over two years should be 1 or maybe 2. If another dominant team won all solidly with one loss in a squeaker...maybe, maybe they should rank ahead.
The 4 seed is BS in itself as they would have to play the top seed while 2 -3 play each other in the first round. It is not right to make an undefeated team play the harder team. They’d do themselves some favors by playing four good quarters this weekend and moving back up a notch.
I’m not a FSU fan but I think that they should be included in the play-offs - depending of course that they win the conference championship this weekend.
They are undefeated. Yeah, a lot of their wins weren’t pretty but they gutted it out and won. The fact that they gutted out a number of their wins proved that they have the mettle to be a play-off team.
Worst undefeated team since BYU in 1984.
I think most fans want to see how they would do facing a top quality opponent. Having struggles against unranked teams hasn’t helped their case, but if another team wins out it would be good for all if they become the champ by beating the champ.
There would be three major factions objecting to this arrangement. The first would be alumni, who want to go to tropical bowls to get drunk in the sun. I don't much care about that.
The second would be major conference runners-up, who would think, sometimes rightly, that they are better than some other team that made the cut. I don't much care about that either. Win your league, or stay at home. And if your league has expanded into a miniature NFL, it's past time for it to slim down to a traditional size.
The third objector would be the television networks, for whom the bowls represent a month long stream of advertising revenues. Network greed is the culprit for so much of what ails our sports today, and the mess in college football is no exception.
Unfortunately, network dollars will probably determine the outcome, as the colleges sold out long ago. The only way we will ever get a legitimate playoff is for the SEC to expand to 300-plus teams to absorb all of Division 1. The expanded SEC would then play a 30 game regular season, followed by an NFL style playoff -- and then the colleges would still have bowls after that. And enough fools would still watch that the networks would continue to sell the game.
why not create four conferences out of the power five with 16 to 20 teams per conference. Each conference could have a championship game with the champions advancing to the semi-finals and the winners playing for the championship. In effect, you would have an eight team playoff with only conference champions advancing to the playoffs. We almost got this a few years ago when the BigXII almost imploded. Too bad Texas ruined it.
***It is not right to make an undefeated team play the harder team. ***
The #1 seed playing the #4 seed, and #2 playing #3 is the way things are done in most any sport in playoff situations. It isn’t dependent on whether any team is undefeated or not.
Four teams is just a transitional state from the BCS.
Some are advocating a 16 team playoff, but that would be ridiculous. Four more games after playing 12 or 13 in order to see who's champ? There would be too many cries regarding time lost to schooling and increased chances of injury.
As an ex-FSU fan, I hope they lose. Jameis and all.
Jameis should be in prison and the coach, school et al are the ones putting up with his antics.
My granddaughter is going to Baylor, a team I’ve always liked, so they have my nod. Not that it makes a difference.
An eight team playoff would require seven games. Why can't these seven games be labeled as bowl games such as Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, etc. and played in large destination stadiums?
If the teams are good and their fans travel then they can play anywhere, especially if the playoffs drag on and most people would rather spend it in California or Florida than Oregon.
