There are many predictors of the success of a marriage, among them the having of money, the having of children, and the length of time a couple spends dating before they tie the knot.
Another big predictor, though, is age: The closer a couple is when it comes to their respective birth years, the greater their chances of avoiding divorce.
That's according to a study that compiled polling data from more than 3,000 recently married and divorced Americans.
The studythe overall findings of which my colleague Olga Khazan highlighted last monthused a multivariate model to calculate the factors that seemed to best predict the marriage's chances of success. (Or, at any rate, its chances of not ending in divorce.) Its results were visualized by the data scientist Randy Olson, who created a series of charts to illustrate the study's findings.

I bought the house before we were married, as a single person. She got the house.

My 94 year old mother knows how to stay married. She married my father when she was 15. He died after 40 years of marriage, she remarried 2 years later and was married for 37 years and then he died recently.
Wait a sec, you came into the marriage with a house and she got it in the divorce????? How did that come about?!
I’ll take two 20s for a 40, Alex...
Ping Megan Dear!
Wife 1 was the same age as me.lasted about 4 years...wife 2 is 12 years younger than I . Been married for 20 years now.
Seven years difference in our ages but we have only been married 57 years... so far
“I met my wife at the sports car races in Santa Barbara in 1957 which we won and we got married in June of 1958, 56 years ago.”
There is a novel in there somewhere.
i’d watch it. today’s 18 year old chick will have a boyfriend she’ll get to crump you off earlier than you think.
Almost exactly ten years. It’ll be 17 years for us next year.
No, I am suggesting that academic discussions regarding statistics, or the application f them, cannot be explained to the general audience in an Internet forum.
Good for you Chain. I won't say how much younger my Filipina is than me, but it is MORE than 26 and 1/2 years. I think it is great. 2nd Div, from the little research I have done, most Asian women DO care about age differences, but the majority of Philippine women do not. Some do of course, but most think age equal wisdom. The Philippines is different than most, much to my good fortune.
I think the numbers are skewed a bit by the guys who divorce their first wives to marry significantly younger women. Those marriages have a much higher failure rate for lots of reasons besides the age difference.
Wow...106? A honeymoon at the home.
Had an argument with a lady friend.
Just....oh, so smart.
Wanted to tell me how antiquated the constitution is and at a minimum, the 2nd amendment.
Told her I agree but, let’s start with the 19th and tie the lack of protected speech to its repeal.
Not being a frickin Freeperette, she of course had to ask if I even knew what the 19th was.
I couldn’t stop laughing before I blurted out “Go make me a sandwich and get me beer....or do you want the back of my hand?”...
Seriously. I should find a bar that has some retired baseball player, a mailman, a psychologist and a hot manager.
Maybe I’ll call the her Diane or Rebecca.
“Yeah, that’s the ticket!”
Maestro! Cue the music:
.
“You wanna go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they’re always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.
You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
your name.”
Hope you and Nully had a good thanksgiving.
I think he doesn’t love me anymore.
Never hear from him.
But, winter is in full swing soon and that means snowboarding time....
Xoxo
He went to his mom’s for Thanksgiving.
By the way, he’s growing his winter fur. (evil grin)
What is funny is WHY we had the same substitute obgyn. My mom had to change obgyns late and the night before my husband was born, the Drs wife found out he was having an affair and stabbed him. He was still recovering when I was born just over a week later.
Also hubby and went to the same preschool so our earliest memories are of each other. We have known each other since we were 3. I often tell him ‘you knew what you were getting into before you married me’. :D
