I visited Baptist churches in Nova Scotia filled with their descendants. Nova Scotia sheltered the Acadians as well as the slaves.

Ahh, yes. The Acadians fleeing persecution in Louisiana, I suppose? Seriously... When you say that "Nova Scotia sheltered Acadians," and you are referring to a place settled by Acadians (fine,) do you mean before or after the forced deportation of Acadians?

Yep. I have been told every black person in Canada who not from the Caribe or a recent immigrant was proudly "descended from slaves," but I never met one or heard any independent, credible testimony in my time there. Oh well. Sometimes I suppose it's better just to believe people... Like how everyone today is a "sharecropper's son." I like the sound of that, actually. Me too: I am a sharecropper's daughter. For real.
