RE: the police just standing there. I heard an astounding thing on the radio (probably Rush) this morning. The official orders to the officers was to treat this event like it was a “festival”. Yep. A Festival. Unreal. Political Correctness at it’s most stupid,destructive and deadly.

Obama wanted the police to show restraint, and they are doing exactly what he wants. As for those who shut down highways and bridges, the best thing to do is to go George Wallace on them. Wallace was a Presidential candidate on an independent ticket in 1968, who frequently remarked that any protester who tried to stop his car would not be doing so again for a long, long time.

Yes, I was listening to the press conference live when the official stated that. I don’t remember his exact language, but that was his instructions.

He said, he told the them “guys just let them go” have their protest, like any other large crowd event, sporting event - words to that effect.

I thought it was the county executive speaking, at first, but on further reflection, IIRC that it was actually Chief Belmar of St. Louis County - Ferguson police are not in charge - it’s the County police and County Commissioner and Governor that are in charge, and a sorry job they are doing!
