As insane as this guy is, this pretty much sums up the lib attitude toward all crime. Note the true racism in not holding someone accountable for their own actions and believing 'poverty causes crime.'

Think of how more rewarding the article would have been if the author had said, “A mugger attempted to mug me, and I shot him to death, and I understand why”.

“Last weekend, a mugger attempted to rob my housemate and I at gunpoint while walking home from Dupont Circle. I have a legal concealed carry pistol which allowed me to defend our lives, and the mugger was prevented from harming us or others, his potential future victims. The entire incident lasted under a minute, and the mugger lay dead at our feet.”

Instead the author and his housemate could be dead, the most recent casualties of this robber who would almost certainly rob, and perhaps kill, again.

The motivations of the robber truly do not matter. His actions matter. And by carrying out those actions, his life is forfeit.

He really doesn't understand why, although his own article explains it.

He was mugged because he -- and other enablers like him -- excuse behaviors which are not exhibited by civilized human beings. It would be acceptable for him and his fellow liberals to live outside of civilization, indeed, it would be condign punishment. But unfortunately, it means that civil society is also disintegrating for those of us who don't want to participate in his criminal enabling.

Notice too, that this sums up the liberal attitude toward criminal aliens as well: "People invaded my country, and I understand why." Nope, you don't. Understanding why would mean that you'd come to understand that YOU ARE THE WHY.

"Until we do so, we should get comfortable with sporadic muggings and break-ins. I can hardly blame them."

I am happy that a good majority of the comments are ripping this fool to shreds.

And if anyone doubts the efficacy of public education in reducing the American male to an effeminate, girly man metrosexual....

We made a big mistake in keeping quiet re the rise of liberalism. And the Repugnant party's attitude of being gentlemanly and sophisticated while the enemy attacks is unforgivable.

You were mugged because you’re a wimp, you’re unarmed, and you have not even a dribble of situational awareness.

I know there are places in my city where I should not go, and the only place I’m not armed is when I go on the Navy base. AND I pay attention to what’s going on around me all the time.

Believing ‘poverty causes crime’ is insulting to every honest middle class and middleclass wannabees now and foreer.. I hate liberal elite bullshit... This is also insulting to every honest black person working for a living at an everyday job.

The guy’s a jerk - I’m glad he getting robbed... hope it happens more often to him... and his mother when she visits...

I was mugged also, and I understand why.

I was mugged by a small group of thugs. Speaking narrowly, they mugged me because they were too lazy to work for the things I had and thought stealing would be easier than contributing to society. Speaking more broadly, they mugged me because they were evil, and because their parents were too selfish to have done a better job of raising children who might otherwise have had potential.

I was mugged, and I lost a tooth and some blood in the resulting fight. They mugged me, and they lost more teeth and far more blood in the resulting fight. [I had been threatened by union thugs as a teenager, so I learned self-defense and took it seriously.] I “lost” the fight in the sense that the dental work I needed cost me far more than the money I was carrying would have cost. They lost the fight in the sense that they were not in a position to mug anyone else that night or probably for a while afterwards.

Yes, I’ve been mugged, and I understand why. My understanding is far deeper than that of liberals who think assaulting a stranger and stealing from that person has any redeeming features.

Luke 6:30 ► English Standard Version Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back.

New American Standard Bible "Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.

King James Bible Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

International Standard Version Keep on giving to everyone who asks you for something, and if anyone takes what is yours, do not insist on getting it back.

The kid is a senior, and he's never seen a gun? Well, not impossible, with impeccably liberal parenting. We have liberal friends whose kids were raised totally gun free, until they visited us ....

Amazing how fast little liberals get into squirt guns, the bigger the better.

The story is sketchy about details of the mugging, but the author does make reference to 2:00 a.m. walkabouts, so I'll hazard the guess that he and his housemate were staggering back from the bars at an hour no honest person should be abroad. That's asking for trouble in any city. DuPont Circle back to the Georgetown University area is perfectly safe at reasonable hours of the day or evening.

Back when he was first running for mayor, Ed Koch used to tell of the time he told some senior citizens about a judge he knew who’d been mugged.

The judge, said Koch, told a group that “this mugging will not influence any of my decisions from the bench” — whereupon a woman yelled, “Mug him again!”

What a sorry excuse for a human. I used to drive through that area in the late 70’s at night around midnight as I got off work at Walter Reed and was on my way to my then girlfriends house in Alexandria VA. All the TV whores used to hang out on the steps of St Thomas Church, which is on the Circle, and scuttle off towards you when you are stopped at a red light.

You knew to keep your doors locked otherwise they would open the passenger door and hop in. I didn't need a 180lb TV streetwalker with a straight razor inside my van. They would pull on your door handle and beg, plead and scream to open the door. I would say no thanks not in the market. More than once I took off with them hanging on. Never did feel a thump under the van. I guess they rolled off away from the truck.
