Update: This awesome dog is called Scamp and you will happy to know that the perp was caught a short while later and justice has been served.

I did property surveying in Texas where we had to measure the house corners to the fence inside of the yards among other things and I was an expert with dogs and can tell you fascinating things you didn’t know on how to defeat them, etc, etc, etc, but the point is that one time I rattled the gate to make sure there was no dog and then entered the back yard and there was a wolf concealing himself, it freaked me out, his yellow eyes told me that he was not hiding out of fear, but as a trap.
I had seen every bluff that dogs can do and beat them all, but this was the first time that one had hidden behind the gate laying a trap, WANTING me to enter his domain, it was a devastating experience and a real eye opener.
The owner came home before we could finish and said that he was part wolf, but I learned the difference between wolves and dogs that day.
DANG!
Good thing it wasn’t a Yorkie. You might not be here to tell the tale.

If a burglar gets in, they generally stay silent and then hit.

I’ve had some that ‘went invisible’ when strangers came around.
My Wonder Dobe would sneak up behind my dad when he got home at midnight and suddenly *bark*.
The dog thought it was hilarious to see dad jump a foot.
Dad was not amused.
Weird thing is, if they see someone outside the perimeter, then they will bark a warning.
But I am discussing “natural”, not-protection trained Dobes.
They generally agitate them into barking at the perp.
I prefer their innate style.

What I saw with dogs like that is a couple of things, dogs tire and they lose interest in men moving around them (out of reach) after a while, they give up, especially in heat, and then you can enter their territory, another thing was that they cue on subtle signals on the human, when caught in ambush I had a talent to feel at ease and be the master as though I belonged there, which either deceived them, or overwhelmed them.
Remember they aren’t really sure if you belong or not, they are trying to read you to decide if you are outside of their owners accepted human world or not, they are idiots whose assignment is not as clearly defined as we think it is for them, they are always just winging it on their limited instincts.
Odin, the male, sounds the alarm and raises holy, toothy hell but ultimately waits to see what my decision is, unless he senses my judgement are incorrect.
He has never been wrong.
Seven, on the other hand, simply does not tolerate anyone “Other”.
Ever.
Nothing persuades/dissuades her.
Not kind words, not patience, not treats, not intimidation [bad idea, that] nor my opinion of said Other.
If I were younger, I would put her through ScH.
In a 5 generation pedigree, only a few of her kin did not have Sch or IPO titles.
I wish I were younger.
She has such a natural knack.
