Physical media doesn't make sense anymore because it is a huge waste of resources.
Companies who sell physical media will not be in business for much longer.
The only problem with digital games is there is no refund/2nd market. There are a lot of gamers who buy a game, play through it, then never touch it again. They tend to like selling 3-4 older games so they can buy a new one. But with Steam/digital, once you buy a game, if you don;t like it or are done with it, you're stuck. Too bad.

You can sell your steam account!
Had an ebay transaction way back when civ v and steam were starting up. Dude sold me his physical civ v disk.
He had to refund me because that disk was registered to his steam account, and he didn't want to turn over the account.
If you are the kind that likes to sell old games, start up new solo steam accounts for each game. That way you can sell it.

Steam does tend to be cheap, however.
