I’m mainly demonstrating what states are capable of via a ‘multi-subject’ amendment. Legislators even at the state level might prefer a stronger central government, and the final checks-and-balances can temporize to reflect that.

Support is largely cautious, but still enthusiastic.

I had deliberatly posted it in anticipation of congressional impotence. Sure enough, there was impotence. And now with Christmas season coming up, I’m refining ‘Under God’ amendment ideas.

Here’s one secret response I received:

“Good list that has the potential to counter executive overreach. Regarding ‘State Empowerment’ that could repeal executive orders, several states already are ignoring federal laws that they object to so there is plenty of precedent for this. Think sanctuary cities and other laws that are openly ignored by states and local jurisdictions.”

Good point.

“The impeachment process is fine.”

It failed under Clinton too. Why was impeachment fine then? We had Chinagate, raided FBI files — oh right. The FBI files prevented impeachment over Chinagate and then the republicans in the House committee were almost universally destroyed through the airing of dirty laundry.

So yep. Let the President hire and fire the FBI director, let the president therefore misuse the FBI files as well as the IRS to intimidate his congressional watchdogs.

Please don’t get too used to the stink we’re wading through.
