[Soaring Feather]

My Dragonfly And Me


If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!


By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone


On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...


And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...


Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Coffee At Four With Humming Birds

Coffee at four with humming birds
a most enjoyable date
loud humming sounds announce their arrival
while looking for their sweet liquid treat

the first to arrive displays an acrobatic feat
swooping and diving round the feeders
checking the safety of the site

he makes a fast stab at the nectar
whizzes past me and tips a thank you wing
he’ll be around again on the morrow
repeating his staged approach

I wait on the porch a devote viewer
of natures’ entertainment without a penny spent.

in one week of sorrow and tears.

Forever is a poet’s place
riding in the wind, climbing
star way staircases
climbing holding on
a shard of a dream held
in a far away wind
wisps of sliver thread
and golden lame’
weave its small cocoon

each poet knows this place
its warm velvety feel
its light descending since the dawn
gossamer gowns with jewel filled crowns
the land forever bound by dreamers
and lovers of starlight land
tie the lover’s knots together
in the loving land.

Forgetting the Line of Time

The pages shift in memory of
happy times as kids
hunting down the rabbits
is what my brother did

Mom would make a pot of stew
we all would partake
and grateful for the meal we had
we bowed our heads in Grace.

We explored the creek than ran
through the pasture green
in Fall we’d fling those cow chips
a farmer’s kid’s baseball
and if one got hit,
it was no fun at all.

We stepped on dried Thistle heads
the pain was sharp and long
the old Burdock heads would cling
to clothes and hair and dog.

We walk the pasture with much care
looking for milkweed tall
oft times there would be a butterfly,
not yet fully formed
the green chrysalis, a marvel to be sure
a gift and wonder to behold
as nature did her work
and taught the chrysalis to be
a Monarch Butterfly.
