No amount of money can get Robert Plant to reunite with his Led Zeppelin bandmates.
The 66-year-old singer walked away from a 35-date tour that would have paid the rock group nearly $800 million ripping up the contract in front of stunned promoters, the Mirror newspaper reported Sunday.

Didn’t want to pay the royalties for performing those songs they took from other bands?
Ironic Plant lives in Texas, when he sang “...and I’m never going to Texas anymore” on ‘Hot Dog.’
And I heard that years later, someone asked one of the ABBA members if they'd considered a reunion, and his reply was No, and when explaining why, he mentioned the LZ quote above.
And I never want to go to a concert where they have to change the keys of the songs, so that the singer can reach the notes.
Before the Beatles, bands didn’t play that large of venues. However, I’d be hardpressed to say that earlier acts/performers weren’t as talented as Taylor Swift, etc.
The “big event” rally show is something I don’t connect with. If you go to them with your friends, half of your memories are the people you went with that night. However, if you go alone the shows are a remote experience.
The Beatles and then Woodstock changed the music business. Bill Graham wanted bigger shows with one performance a night instead of having to turn a room and sell tickets for two performances (and pay the band more).
If a band could “only” sell 3,000 tickets, they weren’t considered as worthy...
Maybe Richard Branson could step in for Plant. He’s got the hair for it.
They sound pretty good at last reunion. I understand Plant had a little help on the high notes electronically(which is better than looking bad if you can’t)

Having seen the live theater broadcast of the final Python show, yes the years are wearing. John Cleese repeatedly got lost if anyone else improvised a line (even with electronic cue cards).
And the material is a bit shop worn (the audience goes in knowing the punchlines). Interesting to see one more dust off but a tour would’ve been redundant.
Frank Sinatra Junior?
Seeing Monty Python without Graham was like seeing The Beatles without John.
Please don’t think for a minute these most of these guys and bands were not in it for the money back in the day. I don’t see too many hospitals or charities named after classic rockers or bands.
Let’s face it, Rock and Roll as we knew it is on its deathbed. Just listen to what is on contemporary music radio these days. How can you blame anybody who has the crazy desire for their “old” music to survive to the next generation?
Although it was not nearly as good as the original, large numbers of the audience for the Queen tour were not alive when the real band ended. They had a good time. Why is that a bad thing—because the band earned money? This is supposed to be a capitalist-oriented website!
If more people don’t do something to keep Rock alive, in 5-10 years the whole genre will turn into a niche style like Jazz or “Big Band” music, which were the equivalent of Rock in earlier generations.
Yea, that was autotuned bigtime alright. He was ‘singing’ 3 feet from the mic on that one ‘ooooh!”
It was a good performance. Sounded great. Now add 8 years and the latest Melodyne/autotune. I still say let the memories stand on their own.
Oh I know they were. And I begrudge than none of it. They made a product and we loved it. I just don’t want to see them destroy it. If they do, it’s their legacy, not mine.
Another “aging yet popular over the hill band” making one last tour to display the last vestiges of depleted talent for a premium take.
Then you have Pink Floyd taking outtakes from 20 years ago and passing it off as a new album.
He was really into Aleister Crowley and he owned an occultic bookstore.
Agreed. But if they did do it I would go.
If they do it, I hope it goes great for everyone involved. Autotune or not. I just don’t want it to suck.
“Agreed. I could never understand how the Hells Angels house band could put out such wimpy sounding music.”
That’s a good point.
Drugs is the answer.
