Shy bladder sufferers want DirecTV to stop airing a television ad in which a “painfully awkward” actor Rob Lowe says he can’t urinate in public.
The satellite TV company suggests its critics should be able to take a joke.
The ad is in poor taste and ridicules a serious problem, said Steve Soifer, CEO of the International Paruresis Association, which estimates that some 7 percent of Americans have some form of “shy bladder syndrome.”
“We don’t mind if people have a little fun with it,” said Soifer, a social work professor at the University of Memphis. “It’s a situation that a lot of people don’t understand. In this particular case, the portrayal is making it look ridiculous, that this guy is a loser for having a problem.
“What if he didn’t have a leg or an arm?” he said. “Are you going to make fun of them?”

What gets me is those commercials that slam satellite. You know what I saw in my cable TV company’s back yard? A bunch of satellite dishes!
Back when I was in college (Engineering) we called that genre of subject matter 'majoring in basket weaving'..

DirecTV should tell them to meet in the Boston Common if they want to continue this pissing contest - make sure lots of vertically hanging ropes are available.
The Geico Cavemen were evidently “racist”.
Last year I was driving home from work and listening to a local AM radio station late afternoon call in show.
I don’t recall what the topic of the show that afternoon was, or even if there was one, but a caller called in and started railing against a certain Gieco commercial airing at the time.
The caller was going off and railing on how offensive this commercial was to him personally as he was a farmer and how he “felt” like the commercial was belittling and making fun of farmers, implying that the commercial and Gieco was implying that all farmers were stupid and couldn’t spell.
At first I was laughing, thinking the caller was joking, but he wasn’t, he was very serious and even the host of the show started agreeing with him and calling for a boycott of Gieco because evidently Gieco because of this commercial, hates farmers.

Maybe the caller was old and his surname was McDonald and perhaps he had some form of dyslexia and had trouble spelling “Cow” without adding the “e.i.e.i.o” at the end. /s
I remember that commercial, I thought it was funny.
