Federal prosecutors plan to dismiss charges against 28 defendants in drug cases because an FBI agent may have been involved in tampering with evidence including firearms and narcotics.
The FBI is in the process of investigating the alleged misconduct, according to court papers in the matter.
At a court hearing Thursday for four of the defendants, a federal judge said he will review the government's plan to dismiss the cases without prejudice, which leaves the door open for the government to refile charges at a later date.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia says it is conducting a case-by-case review of matters in which the FBI agent played some role.

At least the FBI and the prosecutors are being honest with this case. I’ll give them credit for trying to right an injustice.
“If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.”
"If you ain't got nothin', you got nothin' to lose."
Tampering with evidence to get a felony firearms conviction sounds like a great way to put someone in a "nothing to lose" position. If an innocent person framed by this evil FBI agent took the law into his own hands, I'd have trouble convicting him of anything.
What? The FBI is fabricating evidence? This isn’t J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI. The FBI is just following the brave steps of the BATFE. They’ve fabricated and mishandled evidence for so long they really don’t remember how to do it the right way.
