Teen In ICU After Fight Over Shoes At Detroit Charter School [this was an assault, not a "fight"]
CBS News Detroit ^ | November 1, 2014

Detroit police say a 16-year-old is clinging to life after getting being attacked by a classmate at his charter school, apparently over a pair of shoes.

The incident happened Wednesday at Allen Academy on Quincy Street, in a northwest neighborhood off of I-96 near Joy Road.

Police say the student, identified in reports as 16-year-old Willie Wallace, was violently attacked by at least one other student. Investigators believe it all stemmed from a previous altercation over a pair of expensive Nike Air Force shoes Wallace was wearing.

Wallace reportedly suffered a seizure, fractured skull, bleeding in his brain, and damage to his chin, cheek and neck in the attack, which went on for about five minutes. He was last reported in critical condition.

I am concerned about how it went on so long without notice. 5 minutes is actually a very long time.

I don’t think we can require kids act like human beings. We have to understand that ghetto culture involves situations such as these. (sarcasm)

How does a kid get shoes that cost more than the family income?

Part time, 'multi-level marketing' job?

We used to buy the “Seconds” or “Irregulars” in Medford, MA at the factory. The sneakers has a minor manufacturing defect. They sold for $8.00 in the ‘70s.

When the little thug beats the daylights out of a kid for his pricey shoes, what’s going to stop a big thug from beating little thug for the same shoes? Proving once again, these cretins have no common sense. That includes the first victim and his mama for buying them in the first place. It would have been cheaper to put a “Beat Me” sign on the kid.

An expensive shoe should get a tattoo / branding, making it instantly personalized and worthless to others. (Or just tattoo the left shoe!) :)

It reminds me of those big coats in the early 90s that some kids were killed over.

I found one a few years ago in a bin at the goodwill for 50 cents.

Frigging animals. $5.00 worth of material, made by some kid in Asia for 1.00.

You don’t need to assault someone for 5 minutes to steal their shoes I bet.

I think this was about more than shoes.

Chucks?

No chance. My parents knew J.C. Penney sold a perfectly good tennis shoe for half the price of Chucks.

Now, if it was baseball-related my parents bought it without question. But for school, track, basketball, everyday? J.C. Penney sold a perfectly good tennis shoe for half the price of Chucks.

My prayers are with this young man and his family.

Pumped up kicks

The song Pumped Up Kicks is about a kid who goes on a killing rampage. It might fit this situation if the teen survives and gets revenge on his mind.

Pumped Up Kicks

Lyrics:

Robert's got a quick hand.
He'll look around the room,
he wont tell you his plan.
He's got a rolled cigarette
hanging out his mouth.
He's a cowboy kid.

Yeah! He found a six-shooter gun
in his dad's closet, with the box of fun things.
I don't even know what,
but he's coming for you. Yeah, He's coming for you!

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

Daddy works a long day.
He be coming home late, and he's coming home late.
And he's bringing me a surprise.
'cause dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice

I've waited for a long time.
Yeah the sleight of my hand is now a quick-pull trigger.
I reason with my cigarette,
Then say, "Your hair's on fire, you must have lost your wits, yeah?"

(Run, Run, Run, Run. Run, Run.
R-Run, Run, Run.
R-Run.
R-Run, Run, Run.
R-Run.
Run, Run.
Run, Run.
Run, Run, Run.)

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

Johnson said students will be reminded of the “zero tolerance” policy against violence as administrators discuss new methods to ensure student safety.

Yeah, that'll make things better.
