That’s actually what I expected - that it would be males raping males that was “tolerated”.

Check out the first link in post #9. She was arrested for shoplifting. I suppose that had little to do with her leaving the AFA. /s

While there may be a problem with sexual assaults at colleges across the country, this particular story has a twist. Coincidentally, she was arrested for shoplifting the same year she left the AF Academy. Not exactly the most honest person. See post 9 for a link to her mug shot. It’s the first one.

If she was raped, none of that other stuff matters.

I am not suggesting that she possesses a level of character belonging in a US Mil Academy. I am suggesting that if she was raped, there should be a criminal investigation. Not by campus security (as they are on other campuses) but by the military police, or local police.

You are aware that if the rape occurred prior to her other behavior, that it could be the result of PTSD?

I do not know enough about the case to be as sure as you. I do have experience in military college environments. I have witnessed things getting out of hand. I have also witnessed those things being adjudicated promptly, with severe outcomes.

The shoplifting arrest happened in July ‘12. If she was on the track team, her incident would have happened in the spring of ‘12. BEFORE the shoplifting.

I am only suggesting that she is not the best person to be using as a model for throwing stones at the Academy. She doesn’t say specifically that she was raped there. She says she was attacked. That could mean so many things.

In the freshman year, those kids are put through all kinds of hell to see what stuff they’re made of. I’m not suggesting that rape or sexual assault should be condoned or overlooked. I do know that they are hard on their kids to try to weed out those with inferior morals.

Your suggestion that she shoplifted as a result of her attack at the AFA is just bizarre to me. I’m not buying the PTSD angle.

I think she is just another disgruntled person looking to damage others when she couldn’t hold up to scrutiny herself.

This is my opinion. YMMV.

“Not your father’s military.”

If that had happened to one of my daughter’s, there WOULD BE a father involved.

“If your daughter were raped at a college, don’t you think she might not want to go there any longer?”

Lt, I did not dismiss all claims but put them at 90% Apparently arithmetic ain't your strong suit. Just in case, I will give you a refresher course. 90% is 9 of 10 parts. I was allowing for 1 in 10 of the claims to be legitimate.
Or is it that you ar e just one of those people that is perpetually aggrieved.

She said “no” 30 times, but did she severely injure her attacker with a kick, an eye gouge, bite off a finger? I am not making excuses for the attacker or “blaming the victim”, but women, especially in that kind of environment, need to FIGHT!

And as you are amazed with my math skills, I stand in awe of your ability to discern guilt or innocence from a news story filed thousands of miles, and hundreds of days from the events.

Time will tell. And neither of us will probably be paying attention.

Have a nice weekend.

I think the PC issue could be solved with pulling cadets from enlisted ranks, military prep schools and high performing ROTC Cadets. Congressional appointments are not reliable. I heard that some liberal congressmen did not even appoint!! (Congressmen Wiener - surprise..)

“I have a friend whose son appointment to the Annapolis was to first enlist in the Naval nuclear program for two years and then transfer to Annapolis as a sophomore.”

You have a real problem with your facts. NO ONE transfers in to a Service Academy as a sophomore. NO ONE. Everyone starts as a freshman, period.

“The Air Force is reserving more slots for enlisted personnel.”

I seriously doubt that. The number of entries who are former enlisted is pretty small (that is neither good nor bad, it just is). There are 170 slots available for Enlisted at the AFA, but that includes slots at the AFA Prep School and AFA, combined, i.e., about 5% of the total slots for the freshman class. Also, Enlisted who are applying can be neither married nor have an obligation to support a child or spouse.

I might be off base here...but I think the Congressional Appointment part of it is more a formality these days.

The entrance process is tough. The Congress critters might have a list of people to consider, but that list is well culled by the time the final appointment is made. They have to take tests, get great grades, pass the physical stuff.

In terms of the PC part of it, I am sure there are unwritten quotas.

But in terms of toughness, I don’t think at West Point, at least, that they are less tough than they used to be. In our town we usually have one service academy slot to our high school. The last couple of kids that went were big time lacrosse players. (Our town is a BIG lax town.) They both came home after the first semester. I did not think they were cut out for it, and I want to a top 5 mil school, but not an Academy.

My daughter dated a guy from town that was at Air Force. He was more mentally tough, but still I would consider him a notch higher than your average ROTC guy from a regular college. Due to my own Mil College background, the hair on the back of my head stands up when I talk to any Academy kids. They have an arrogance drilled into them that I tend not to like. But, that is “my” thing.

For those who really want to know why rape is not reported...it’s called Google.

why don’t military women report rape

then read.
