Johnathan reminds of his great success in Las Vegas, highlighted by a 13-year run at Golden Nugget, a gig he resisted initially. When they said Golden Nugget, I was like, Eeeeh, really? But I sold out every night for two years, 500 seats a night. Every single night.
And over the years, he says, The greatest time of my life was spent here. I made millions of dollars, I have two beautiful houses, and everything came crashing
And swiftly, the air seems to leave the room. There is a long pause, timed at seven seconds but seeming an eternity.
The great entertainer then says: Down.
And adds, And I was told I have a year to live.
The audience is unsure how to react. A.J. is known to be one of the great pranksters among entertainers, in Las Vegas or anywhere. Is this real? There is a laugh from the crowd.
Its not a joke, he says.
Silence.
So. Um
I promised myself I wasnt going to cry, but, he continues, his voice quivering. Its very scary. My heart is failing. My wife says it failed long ago. But it is actually failing, for real.

He has a year to live because his heart is failing? What about a heart transplant?
When I was in jr. High, the doctors gave my dad six weeks to live, after a massive heart attack. When the six weeks were up, they extended it to six months and sent him home. When the six months were up, they let him out of bed and he lived for three and a half years. You never know.
There may be medical reasons why he can’t be a heart transplant candidate.
As I understand if from having a relative who had to have one, you first have to have a donor who is a good match in terms of blood type and size. Then it depends on where you are on the list. Obviously, the sicker you are the higher you are on the list. Unless you are too sick. If you’ve got other health problems, or if you are just so weak from having a bad heart for so long, and may not survive, you get pushed down the list, so that people who are more likely to survive will get any donor heart.
And if you get sick enough, you get taken off the list completely.
He has done some really funny stuff.
Not to be negatory. No one is promised tomorrow. That is why you need to focus on the here and now.Plan and work for the future but live in the here and now
About two years ago, Valerie Harper announced she was about to die due to a brain tumor, I think. She’s still with us!
ha ha that’s right. It must be Obamacare than saved her.
I remember seeing him as he was just hitting the big time on cable and network tv....he’d adopt a silly British accent as he would do a trick about fooling the audience.
Loved it.
Pray for his soul as his time on earth comes to a close.
