Did you miss the part where the dogs were aggressive enough for the people trapped in their car to call 911 and ask for help.
First, I didn’t mean to imply that these dogs were rabid, only that rabies is quite common at times here in Texas and people including LEO tend to be overly cautious around strange animals they don’t know.
Second, I did mean to imply the LEO has not come forward or the people who called 911 to explain the circumstances surrounding the situation. I don’t want to condemn the LEO’s actions without his or her side of the story. I’ve noticed a lot of FR people are quick to jump to the conclusion that all LEOs are bad guys and kill dogs just for fun. What’s next, animal sensitivity training.
Third, the next time the people call 911 asking for help, they or the 911 operator should specify that animal control be dispatched, along with a LEO. Maybe the outcome will be different.
When people start shooting cops in response to this garbage I’m going to stand up and cheer.
“... unless, of course, its the police investigating the police, in which case the obvious conflict of interest will, if anything, make people even more agitated.”
Far too many are blind to that truth. In most of these investigations, everyone doing the investigating have EVERY motive to produce the predictable “No foul” response. Even outside agencies have to remember that LEOs will be less likely to push their authority to the edge, if they can trip over and go down hard.
Far better for all of them to just cover the bad apples and tell the boys in blue to behave as they wish.
Internal investigation is an oxymoron. Only a fool trusts them. And only a fool trusts any LE organization to critically investigate an officer.
Oh come on, people.
We need to get over the nonsense of “tail wag = happy dog”.
It is nonsense. It is the MANNER in which they “wag” that counts.
To the person who said “tail up - don’t shoot”: tail up often means dominance. That’s not always a bad thing per se, but it can be, especially if the dogs showed aggression.
Tail-wagging either high or low and very fast can indicate agitation, and thus instability, at least for the moment.
My only problem here is the dogs don’t seem to be doing much. But the video is NOT the whole story, although it makes everyone uptight about 1 aspect just like other things recently, such as the beheadings, as if they didn’t happen before. Isolated, yes, it is probably egregious, but in context, maybe not.
I understand your concerns and I can see your point of view. Let me put some more spin on it if I may:
The first issue is about animal cruelty, not whether the dog was rabid since the dog wasn’t obviously aggressive and foaming at the mouth. He was friendly and his tail was up wagging indicating “I surrender”!
The second issue is about the LEO killing the dog. It is obvious the LEO was just another Barney Fife who loves to kill defenceless dogs. He hates dogs and he needs to rot in hell!
The third issue is about a cute friendly tail wagging dog who is obviously the victim. The people who called 911 were mistaken about the three friendly tail wagging dogs who only wanted to lick them!
The forth issue is about Justice. Obviously the LEO wasn’t justified in shooting the dog based on the above issues. I’m sure the dog’s owner will seek justice in a court of law. He will sue the police and the people who called 911 for his loss of companionship. Note that his dog ran loose on the streets and would never attack another human being. A representative of PETA will be present to offer the owner support and legal advice. PETA will threaten marches and riots if the LEO is not condemned and fired for his actions.
The fifth issue is about ethnicity. If the dog belonged to a protected species or certain colour, then hate crimes and discrimination become an issue and the DOJ will be notified to look into the incident.
I always like to look at both sides of an issue before coming to a conclusion. Do not take this reply personally.
I’m expecting the day will come when some sub-human with a tin badge does this, and an entire neighborhood of kitchen windows fly open and fire back in sheer disgust. The only 911 call with be, “Send more.”.
F.A.G.S.
Your reply was confusing. There is a national campaign by PDs everywhere to eliminate dogs that confront them. Where did that come from?
Where a dog is obviously sick with distemper, the safe and correct thing to do is to shoot the dog. That is the only time that a police officer should shoot a dog, unless the dog has his ankle between it’s jaws and doesn’t want to let go.
While these dogs were loose, were they an actual threat to the policemen who responded? Were these dogs a threat to the people in the car? There are far too many dogs being shot by policemen as the first option. This needs to stop.
I am not good at this, but I may have noticed a touch of sarcasm in your post. If you would care to post a serious reply that is understandable, I would welcome that...
My reply was meant to be sarcastic. Now for a serious and hopefully understandable reply:
The policeman was dispatched by 911 to protect the endangered citizens, not the dogs. I don’t know if it was necessary to shoot the dog because a lot of facts were missing in the article. Regardless, the dog was made to be the victim of a cruel trigger happy policeman in the video and that might not be the case in this situation when all the facts are presented. The people who called 911 were not asked their opinion or interviewed in the article. They might have viewed the situation differently since they were trapped in their car.
BTW, do not confuse this situation with the one where LEOs will often shoot your guard dog and maybe you while illegally trespassing on your property.
When that day comes, no blue uniform, no badge, not even God Himself will be able to help the useless bastard. I'll end his vile disease, with extreme prejudice and no small amount of satisfaction for a job well done.
As I say, it has happened before. I know whereof I speak.
One of them was most definitely wagging its tail. It’s there. Go back and look more carefully. And this time wear your glasses.
TWO PIT BULLS RUNNING ON THE LOOSE......a complaint lodged by a family in a car who felt they were endangered...........
So what kind of glasses do I need?
Just curious, do YOU let YOUR dogs run loose in your urban neighborhood? I thought there were laws against it..........?
Did I mention the breed of the dogs?
Did I say anything about a family in a car?
Did I say it was OK to let dogs run loose?
Since you seem to need help understanding what you read, I will help you with the answer to those questions: It's "no" for all of them.
What I said was that one of the dogs was wagging its tail. Period.
You said it wasn't. It was.
Perhaps you should lay off the tabasco for it while. It may be frying your brain.
Hell; the morons allowed out there today call 911 because their pizza was delivered cold.
If the cops would just stop shooting dogs and start shooting the stupid, a lot of problems would be resolved.
