The deadly Ebola virus could be mutating to become even more contagious, a leading U.S scientist has warned.
The disease has killed nearly 4,000 people, infecting in excess of 8,000 - the majority in the West African nations of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Communities lie in ruins, thousands of children have been orphaned, millions face starvation but the virus continues its unprecedented pace, invading and destroying vast swathes of these countries.
Meanwhile three nurses, two in the U.S. and one in Spain have caught the infection while treating Ebola patients, despite wearing protective suits.
Now U.S. scientist Peter Jahrling of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease believes the current Ebola outbreak may be caused by an infection that spreads more easily than it did before.
Dr Jahrling explained that his team, who are working in the epicentre of the crisis in the Liberian capital of Monrovia, are seeing that the viral loads in Ebola patients are much higher than they are used to seeing....

Wise thoughts. I totally agree.
Ok, it’s a new strain according to the Germans, but no indication of what the consequences are, so you are free to speculate.
No one knows Palmer...all are speculating. There is not much known about this virus...but they are finding out some things that are quite scary about this one. I am not trying to panic anyone but we MUST NOT underestimate the threat. We really goofed with the first contact in the US...let’s just pray we have limited exposure from here on out.
The threat is the infected West Africans coming into our country with no tracking. They may eventually show up at emergency rooms and cause chaos in the health care system. if they don't, they will die on the street and cause infections in their acute stage to good samaritans and first responders. It is a threat that other African countries already manage along with many European countries (and I'm sure others as well). But our administration will not cut of that flow. That is the threat.
Nobody in his apartment has come down with it, trust me, if that was the flu they’d all be sick as you know what, the fact that he was that ill, in that apartment, with all those people, and none of them have come down with it in 21 days ought to give you some comfort ...
So that means there’s no cause for call ncern or proper precautions, ever.
Right?
Sorry pal, no sale.
Thanks for the ping!
No, there is major cause for concern. But it’s not near as hard to spread as other alarmists on this site have been claiming. Stop allowing those to travel from the infected areas and problem solved, nothing to worry about. It is not airborne.
Ebola Zaire is easily spread, and has been spread through sneezes.
Aerosol.
Ya, that’s why it’s destroying the planet as we speak ..
Short mutational step from aerosol to airborne.
To play it off as a “don’t worry about it” is irresponsible as well as enabling those who want it to spread for political reasons: John P. Holdren, Obama science czar specifically.
He says the United States needs to be depopulated, possibly via disease.
And don’t forget, this administration “never let a crisis go to waste.”
I call “Quack Alert” ...
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
