The only thing speedier than Percy Harvin in uniform is how fast the wide receiver wore out his welcome in Seattle.
Roughly 19 months after his ballyhooed arrival, the Seahawks had enough. As first reported by FOX Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer, Harvin was traded Friday afternoon to the New York Jets for a conditional draft choice.
Few if any players in league history were ditched by a franchise so quickly after such a large investment was made. The Seahawks sent multiple picks to Minnesota including a first-rounder for Harvin in March 2013 and then signed him to a six-year, $67 million contract extension with $25.5 million guaranteed.
The fact hes now gone speaks volumes for how much Harvin had fallen out of favor.
This obviously wasnt a performance or health issue. It was a case of Harvin no longer fitting into the team fabric for various behind-the-scenes reasons.
The Vikings felt the same way about Harvin. Thats why a player with Harvins ample talent was available in the 2013 offseason.
As much as this deal blew up in their faces, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider deserve credit for this: They know when something isnt working and take steps to fix it instead of refusing to act because it would acknowledge a mistake was made.

Seahawks are not the team they were last year. Defense is no where as good and now the offense is no where as good. Dallas went to Seattle, where they supposedly can’t be beat, and went through them like sh*t through a goose. My early favorites for the Super Bowl are Denver over San Diego for the AFC title and Dallas over Philly in the NFC. With Denver winning and Peyton Manning going out on top.
No, it came from people who know Wilson.
This is akin to saying, “I want this sumbitch gone. Trade him for a six-pack of beer. It don’t even gotta be cold!”
Just heard he had physical confrontations in the locker room. Detrimental to the team.
Close. I say Chargers over Donkeys for the AFC. Cowboys over 49ers in the NFC. Rivers finally gets his ring.
I can tell you that it happened months ago. I dont follow the team that closely, so I didn’t catch the name of the receiver. I didn’t know that the whole thing wasn’t common knowledge.
Re: “the Jets...The Death Valley of pro football teams...”
Unless they’re playing the Dolphins, who always find some way to give the game away.
And when the Jets play in Miami, there are actually more people in the stadium rooting for the Jets than for the home team Dolphins.
You have to be there to believe it.
From another article at the link
“Perhaps the biggest issue, or at least the ultimate final straw, is something that Bob Condotta and John Boyle both reported Friday night: that Percy Harvin refused to go back into the game late against Dallas, when Seattle was trying to drive downfield to re-take the lead.”
He does not get along with his teammates, refuses to go back into the game, why would any team take a chance on this nut case?
I’m going to blame his parents. Given a name like “Percy”, who wouldn’t develop into a messed up individual? :)
You’re thinking about Golden Tate. He got traded in early spring (IIRC) to Detroit, and it wasn’t too long after that Wilson announced his divorce. Was standing in line at the post office chatting with some guy who was wearing a lot of Hawks gear when I found this out. Was totally stunned. Everyone else knew about it. Gal behind the counter thought it was common knowledge, but was new to me!
Thanks for clarifying that.
