MARSHFIELD Residents opposed to a school committee vote to remove the word Christmas from the school calendar say the decision promotes religious intolerance and censorship.
At a school committee meeting Tuesday night, several residents asked members to reconsider the September vote that changed the name Christmas vacation to holiday break on the calendar. The vacation week begins on Christmas Eve and ends the Monday after New Years Day.

I would be willing to give up a Christmas if we could force all people to work that day. The government and all of them. Let’s just make it a regular day. I would LOVE IT!
This is so silly. Why do they get the day off? Is it Memorial Day? Is it Labor Day? Is it Martin Luther King Day? No one is going to be offended if you tell people you are giving them Christmas Day off. Hell, Christmas is so commercial that, sadly, it isn’t even a religious holiday anymore.
Within 10 years everyone will be working Christmas.
Leftist are taking thanksgiving away just like they took Columbas day.
Don’t tell me!
The school board has a different religious composition than the student body, doesn’t it?
IMHO, this PROVES that MORE DIVERSITY is needed on that intolerant school board.
THEREFORE, the number of school board members who belong to “over-represented sects” on that school board must be reduced so that new board members can be elected, who will ensure that the religious composition of the school board accurately reflects the religious composition of the school’s student body.
What could be “fairer” than that?
THEN. the vote on whether to celebrate Christmas must be taken again.
It is not proper that the question of whether or not to celebrate Christmas could be decided by school board members who don’t even “understand” that Holiday.
Why should these people besmirch our Holy Day any way. They can cut St. Patrick's day out as well. As a Pat I resent the debauchery!
Taking St. Patrick's Day off doesn't make any sense. Now, the DAY AFTER St. Patrick's Day I understand.
But the government doesn't think when it decides on holidays and when to observe them. Case in point: Martin Luther King Day.
MLK Day is observed on no particular date in January just so long as it's a Monday to make for a long weekend. Some people take it off, more and more companies in the private sector don't recognize it as a holiday. How do we get everybody on board with a MLK Day holiday? The answer is simple and makes total sense...
It's the end of football season. Hellooooo? Designate the Monday after the Super Bowl Sunday as MLK Day!
I really should have more say in how this country is run...
:) In Ireland it is a religous holiday (St. Patricks). Fedreal holidays are designed for federal employees not us serfs. Geez, now get back in the boat and row with the rest of the slaves. ;)
I may be a dinosaur but i'm not dead yet!
