The most lethal flaw in the design of the B-24 was it's “T-wing’’ shape. With the wings almost level with the height of the fuselage any large caliber shell hit in the wing and a B-24 was doomed within seconds. I've known men who flew in the more sturdy and rugged B-17 and they told me unequivocally the only reason they're alive today is because ''I wasn't flying in that f**king thing''. That ''f'ing thing'' of course being a B-24.

The wing design itself was remarkably weak (Davis wing), a few 20mm rounds from a Bf-109 and it was over.
The wing folded up and the plane rolled.
B-24J “Witchcraft” once in awhile flies through my area.

I believe it was a B24 my Grandpa crash landed in as a flight engineer in the Pacific during WWII. His legs were covered in burn scars and he was deaf in one ear after that. I remember him talking about the planes being death traps he didn’t like riding in.
