That was my Plan B when the power goes out - would be OK for a few days, but in a SHTF situation I may need heat without petroleum for six months.
I heat with oil and supplement with wood (finished basement), but know I can keep the entire house above 55 if the power goes out (and stays out).

We’ve thought about the same SHTF scenario and are thinking seriously about a small wood cook-stove for the kitchen, just in case.

You make a good point, in that, a long-term power outage would quickly render a generator into nothing more than a boat anchor.

Let’s all hope that never happens.
