This isn't a matter of economy, or ebola, or ISIS... but I just need a few opinions about an AARP commercial, or really I need some help settling a small dispute. I contend that the guy in this commercial is suppose to be older and suffering some diminished mental ability. Like pre-Alzheimer or something. Mrs KJAM22 contends he is just being a smart@$$ like Kjam22 might be?
Thoughts? Opinions?

I think neither. It’s just a poor commercial with the usual woman-smart/man-dumb script.
Should prove to be an interesting discussion.
1. I detest all things AARP and United Healthcare.
2. Wife came across as a typical blond. How many people would actually discuss the issue of supplemental insurance when driving down the road.
3. It’s a commercial for which I would think they are both being well paid. What he should have said, had it not been a commercial, was something to the effect that they could talk about this later.
4. Female needs to get a life; male needs to get a new wife.
They should be turned into info-reality-shows. JUST KIDDING
Oh how I wish I could tell you what I say when I see that spot! I can’t, at least in mixed company.
Basically the poor guy is driving along trying to enjoy the scenery and the freaking wommink can’t stand to see him happy.
She has to seize the moment to push her nanny state, I’m Your Mommy agenda.
He knows. He’s been down this road before. Many times.
Why can’t the stupid, whining...*****...STFarkU?
If that was me I’d say...You want to talk? OK...I’m pulling off the road. Get in the back seat and take your....(use twisted, guy type imagination)...and we’ll talk! We’ll do MORE than talk!
A buddy and I used to bust on a similar commercial and IIRC it was also AARP for insurance. The meekish guy and his hottish wife...kinda looked like Sarah Palin...were in the kitchen. He was getting his coffee and a cabinet door fell askew. She started whining about a honey don list.
I’d give her a honey do list she wouldn’t soon forget!
Same with the dame in this commercial. I’d keep her so busy in the bedroom she wouldn’t be able to whine.
That is all...rant over.
.
I think everyone’s overanalyzing it. The couple is supposed to be likable, hip, active seniors, the husband is supposed to be a bit of a lovable wiseacre, and AARP is using conversation to get the message out.
I hate male-bashing commercials as much as anyone, but not everything is an evil Feminazi plot to make men look bad.
(But the wife DOES look like a younger, better-looking Hillary!)
I saw what you did there, LOL!
So here's another one: Clorox Disinfecting Wipes -- grandpa apparently has gotten not one but two chickens out of the freezer, rigged them up as marionettes, and is plopping them around the table. Mom comes in and busts him, and all I can hear out of him is some kind of unintelligible gurgle. Oh Dad, ho ho! Clorox Wipey-doo's to the rescue!
I say that guy is in full blown dementia.
I couldn't find the full 30-second ad where he just sort of gurgles when he's caught; here's a 15-second version:
I shall be a contrarian. This ad has always annoyed me and the TV goes mute whenever it comes on, which seems to be constantly. I don’t know about any underlying messages but I do know it made such little impression on me I didn’t realize until it was for AARP until I read this thread.
Seems like a normal give and take between a husband and wife. Don’t see anything weird here at all.
I dropped AARP the day they endorsed Obola for POTUS.
I like that... Consider us dead...
That is funny
