One man made the discovery of a lifetime while out on a recent hike.

Jordan Liles, who currently lives in San Diego, California, was in Tennessee back in May 2013 when he decided to take some photos  during a trek through Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Those photos turned out to be incredibly interesting when the young man managed to stumble across a seemingly forgotten town in the woods.

Not built 100 years ago, Maybe built in the 30’s or 40’s.

Not only was the town abandoned by people, but the people were forcibly moved off the property around 1932.

I recently spoke with a lady who was 7 years old at the time and a resident of Catalooche, NC. The same thing happened to them. They (her parents) were "allowed" to live on the for the remainder of their lives, but the regulations that the federal government placed on them made it impossible for them to make a living and feed themselves.

Sad, but did create a fantastic wilderness area.

Interesting find, but just looking at the architecture of the buildings I doubt it has been abandoned for 100 years. Perhaps 50 years. That the abandoned town was just a mile up an unused but existing gravel road also causes me to question that it was untouched for 100 years. My wife and I have long sought out abandoned towns for photo shoots and have visited towns far more overgrown than this that are still on good maps and still have a few people still living in or near them.

Well...It seems to me that there is plywood on the windows. Did that exist 100 years ago? And...One of the photos shows a well traveled path. Someone had to “discover” this for that path to be so worn.

“Incidentally, it’s hardly a discovery. It’s part of the park, and is an abandoned resort. It’s not untouched at all. The entire story is absurd.”

Yeah, except for the “100 year old” steel 55 gallon oil drum, steel overhead rolling door, steel door with stainless handle, painted steel folding chairs and cement siding shingles, intact sky lift, intact roofs, intact paint, intact stone walls, intact glass and screen wire.

It did look kind of nice and the boards on the windows on the lower floor don’t look too old
