According to UC researcher Zhou Lu, it has long been suspected that on a young Earth, the atmosphere likely contained mainly carbon dioxide (O2), as is the case today on Mars and Venus. Yet there also must have been a small amount of oxygen floating around even before the first microbial life. These days, the Earth's oxygen supply comes from photosynthesis among plant life and phytoplankton.
So in the absence of these things, where did the first oxygen come from?
"Our results indicate that O2 can be formed by carbon dioxide dissociation in a one step process. The same process can be applied in other carbon dioxide dominated atmospheres such as Mars and Venus," Zhou explained in a recent release.

“Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact, it’s cold as Hell”
And then another amazingly stupid line:
“And there’s no one there to raise them if you did”
So apparently you would need someone on Mars to raise your kids for you if you lived there.
Temperature:
The temperature on Mars may reach a high of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius) at noon, at the equator in the summer, or a low of about -225 degrees Fahrenheit (-153 degrees Celsius) at the poles. Obviously this is very inhospitable for humans, but it is also of some concern for the electronics and mechanical parts of a Mars airplane and its instrumentation. In the mid-latitudes, the average temperature would be about -50 degrees Celsius with a nighttime minimum of -60 degrees Celsius and a summer midday maximum of about 0 degrees Celsius
Well, it does take a village apparently (sarc.).
"Turn it auhn, if you want to live"
It takes the Borg to raise a child.
Mars needs a strong magnetic field to shield cosmic radiation. How you gonna terraform that?
I know that banded iron and chert were rocks they were looking for on mars as they would be indicative of Cyanobacteria. I don’t think they have yet found anything like that.
You think he was literally talking about Mars?
He was a gay man talking during the absolute summit of gay abandon during the 1970’s. I’d guess that now that he is a ‘respectable’ ‘married’ with children he regrets the little bit of truth that slipped out all those years ago.
Bernie Taupin isn’t a homosexual.
